Well, there are two schools of thought - one that a new series isn't so far off (though they've been saying that for getting on two years now), and the other that'll it's never gonna happen (and a good thing too as the BBC isn't capable of producing decent DW in today's world).

I content myself with a very occasional novel, the CD stories, and, of course, my video collection.

The last I heard about it was that they were going to create another movie? The first wasn't bad but the Doctor wasn't the Doctor and the world of Doctor Who was sort of messed up a bit. Hopefully, if they make another movie they will go back to the old Doctor type character except with brilliant special effects.

I get the impression the BBC desperately wants to make a movie, simply because they reckon it'd be a big money-spinner. I think they see DW as potentially being a rival to things like the Star Trek and Buffy franchises, but for that to happen they need foreign money. But they refuse to sell the merchandising rights even partially, so no foreign companies are interested in the idea.

It'd be incredibly easy to make new DW if they just forgot about trying to compete with the States and did it moody, low-key, and low-budget - sort of like Sapphire & Steel for the new millenium.
