Getting out of Grimsby

A couple of times a month I go into Grimsby shopping. The bus station is currently being dug up, causing distress to the other old ladies in my village, as the bus stops have been resited temporarily to the surrounding little side streets.
However, I feel the bus driver chose the wrong one of us when he asked me to guide him out of town this evening. Apologies to my fellow passengers for the resulting scenic route. smiley - starsmiley - star

DUAL FUEL

Bill that arrived today was considerably less than this time last year - partly because of all the lovely warm weather reducing my consumption by nearly 1000 kwh and partly because British Gas have reduced their charges very slightly.
They have just introduced a tariff that should save me another £140 a year. I was actually singing as I went into the kitchen to make a cuppa. smiley - starsmiley - star

16th December 2013

was a lovely day.
Got up in time to catch the early bus into Lincoln only to find after waiting for 20 minutes that there wasn't one. Memo to self - always read the small print: the 8.15 is Saturdays and school holidays only. It was warm waiting though in my posh cashmere coat from China and when the sun got up properly the temperature in Lincoln was 14 all day!
Dropped off a package at the Old Palace in Minster Yard and then attended the brunch for Cathedral volunteers - full English followed by mince pies and spectacular ice cream.
I was given a nice little jokey present that I think may be intended for decanting jam into, and a small voucher for John Lewis/Waitrose.
Dreaming of what to spend that £10 on on the way home, I drifted off, but the bus driver sent someone to wake me when we got to my stop.
Bought small fish and chips for tea (£3.50)and kept my posh coat on both to eat them and to go down the yard to collect the bins.
Packed and taxi ordered for tomorrow, so all I have to do is clean the house (?!) and batten the hatches.
Happy Christmas. See you on Twelfth Night.smiley - starsmiley - star

Ten years ago

I was shivering in the wings of the largest theatre in Hong Kong waiting to go on as Cinderella's fairy godmother. The part was loosely based on Clarence in It's a Wonderful Life and I qualified for my wings in the end, having changed the pumpkin into a Barbie car that I had to push as I hadn't managed to spell any fuel.
The following five years I had a few lines in the subsequent pantos where incompetence excused my inability to dance or sing in time.
Boy, do I miss it and have sent my best wishes for a successful opening of Sleeping Beauty this evening. Very good luck to anyone else having a go this, and remember "it's behind you" all too soon.smiley - starsmiley - star

10p an hout

I am fed up with people moaning about the cost of a TV licence and how there's never anything worth watching on the Beeb. A fellow diner in my local café so incensed me last week that I've been making a list to confound him next week.
Without watching any soaps or "reality TV"* I manage to average 4 BBC hours a day, which works out to about 10p an hour. I reckon that's very good value.

* I am not a complete intellectual snob. I watch quiz shows and am addicted to Homes Under the Hammer. Brian Cox is worth the licence fee on his own and I watched last years Olympics all the hours it was available. smiley - starsmiley - star
