Please accept my - totally inadequate - apologies for not taking my leave of you in a fitting style.
No, honestly, I really thought I'd see you again before I left Reims. I wanted to give you another hug And say thank you so much for the books - we really should have paid at least one of your meals to reimburse you a little. They are all wonderful, nearly-new hardbacks, and I shall certainly read them before passing them on to my son.
I hope you have (have had) a safe and uneventful journey home, and that the after effects of the "Cathedral dash" weren't too dire!

I expected to see you too, but I forgot you had the means of a hot drink and wouldn't need to be up as early as me for breakfast. I should have waited for you to get back from Flo's car. Never mind. I'm sure we'll meet again and there'll be time for more hugs.
Books are only useful if they're being used - although they have been part of the furnishing anywhere I've lived in the last fifty years. The one major row I remember having with my mother was when she wanted to sell my university books - I've still got a few of them but most went to the local teacher training place three or four years ago.
I now have to think of a suitable dispersal for the dictionaries before people stop using print. I know Duncan could no more put books into a skip than I could (he and Christina have just spent a week at Hay on Wye, necessitating the building of another bookshelf)but I think the difficulty of getting rid of 4 shelves of poetry when I die is going to be enough hassle.
So it's good that some are going to a good home and I'm only sorry that the Business English stuff had all left me.

Hi! I don't seem to have an up to date e-mail address for you (all the ones I can find seem to be from Hong Kong)
The daughter of a friend of mine has graduated from Cambridge and wants to teach EFL in China. I said "Oooh - I know someone who has done that, do you think she would like to be put in contact with her?"
He said yes, and so now I wanted to put you two into e-mail contact.
My e-mail address is still on my page. Perhaps you could send me your present address, and I'll do the matchmaking if you would like to mentor her.
