Again its cooking.
I was thinking of doing honey glazed pork chops tonight, but which herbs (if any) should I put with it?
I have tarragon, corriander, black pepper and ground pimento but can dash into the shop for anything else.
(FYI the veg is likely to be potatoes and spinach tops)

If your spice rack's still extant, pick it up from Caistor. If not, it's worth buying mixed spice and/or mixed herbs. Spices you absolutely must have are ginger and cinnamon. I assume you have chillies and peppers.Parsley for fish, sage for pork, rosemary for lamb, thyme for beef. All better picked fresh. Check whether your supermarket/delicatessen has pot herbs. If not a mixed pot for your kitchen doorstep is a good idea,

As it turned out I used the wholegrain mustard and guiness stuff at about 1:2 with the honey - and blooming delicious it was too.
I don't think Tesco does pot herbs, but they have the Birds Eye frozen herbs which work quite well.
I will look into getting a big pot for fresh herbs as the kitchen doorstep does get a lot of sun.

Any thoughts on trout?
I think I have limes and corriander, but have to go to the shop anyhow....
Do I need a fish-kettle or is it possible to steam a fish some other way? Hmm....

Don't boil trout. Slather it in butter and grill it.Or ditto in tinfoil and bake it in the oven Traditionally stuff with green grapes and almonds , but I think that's a bit OTT myself.Try apple, sweet onion and/or celery and mild green herbs.

If you can get unsweetened Bramley Apple Sauce, that would be good. Otherwise slice finely and intersperse with finely sliced onion

If you have a dish washer you can cook fish wrapped in aluminium foild (seasoned of course) very effectively in a dish-washer - just remember not to use any detergent...

This was advice given to young housewives when smaller ovens and cookers (as opposed to the giant Aga) became popular.

I want a giant Aga...but I suppose I'd need a house to put it in first.
In fact anything which would allow me to have freshly baked bread with my morning coffee would be great .

Then you need to:
a) marry a baker
b) get up very early and knead away
c) get an oven with a timer, and put ready-to-bake rolls/bread in it (and remember to set the timer) in the evening
d) buy one of those new-fangled (but truly brilliant) bread-baking machines.
Yum.
We used our Aga for thawing out molly lambs. The only lamb which ever went in our oven. But we never used it to bake bread. Mothers' Pride for us!
