I have always tried to be a good citizen - I don't spit, I don't swear where it is innappropriate and even though I enjoy the role of devil's advocate, I do try to be sensitive to the feelings of others.
However, I do have a mind of my own. I am not a child (some might say I never was) and I am proud of my ability to speak up when it needs to happen. I am a British citizen, I pay the BBC licence fee and I am a registered voter. But I can't discuss the general election on this site?
I have to say that I find this rule deeply offensive. In fact, I haven't been treated in such a mindless manner since I left school. This is the emotional equivalent of finding out that a good friend was a serial killer and I am disgusted with the PTB for being party to this.
You (H2G2) have my email address - you can contact me when you are prepared to behave like adults but in the mean time, consider me quit.

Tracking back thru the original Election thread, I realised that (.) was the new pseudonym for Spear Carrier.
It is good to see you around occassionally. You've been sorely missed. (Likewise 'Star, on both counts).

Well having read that original entry that started this, I couldn't help thinking 'Oh thank god an oasis away from the lies and spin doctoring about the election!' It's everywhere else!
It's all over the newspapers, the WWW,the television and even knocking on my front door. Funny how candidates turn up all sparkly fresh on your doorstep when you've never seen the one already in power and don't expect to see this one in the future either!
I wouldn't mind if the election was exciting and had any probability of effecting positive changes but.........
Oh I've lost my nick name and turned into a number

My resignation was in response to the draft of the house rules, but given the changes to this draft and also the fact that the H2G2 part of the election pages on the BBC main site is actually better than I had expected, I will be able to sit on my principles.
Especially since two things I wrote before this event ("Bacillus 2-9-3" and "The seven secrets of succesfull programmers") made it onto the front page in my absence
