New Year Resolutions 2003
Ormondroyd Started conversation Dec 31, 2002
As I look back on 2002, one thing I can say for myself is that I've shown that I can keep a resolution. In June I decided to give up booze, and I've stuck to that so determinedly that - well, here I am stone cold sober on New Year's Eve evening.
So it is with some hope of success that I present my plans for 2003:
1) To stay off the , at least until I've clocked up one sober year on June 22.
2) To keep pursuing my scriptwriting and acting ambitions. I made my stage debut in 2002, and I want to do much more in 2003. This is a great time to be doing that kind of thing, as there are certainly opportunities out there. For a start, just see http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom .
3) To keep losing weight. I'm sick of being a fat . I've got down from 18 stone to 17 stone in the latter half of 2002. At the very least, I'd like to maintain that rate of progress.
4) To click on http://www.thehungersite.com and its four sister sites every day when I've got 'Net access. It does some good and it only takes a minute, so there's no excuse for not making the effort.
5) To become a connoisseur of tea. I've recently become an Earl Grey fan, and thanks to other Researchers' recommendations I've discovered Lapsang Souchong and Assam. I want to find more and more delicious blends! This year, I'm embarking on 2003 - A Tea Odyssey.
I also hope to contribute more Edited Guide entries to this ever-excellent website, and generally spend lots of time here. But that goes without saying, surely?
Happy New Year!

Happy new year to you too, Doctor!
I'm a bit confused by your message, to be honest, although it seems friendly enough! 'The world awaits those who can plan to the end? Do you mean I should be pledging to give up the
for life, or at least for the whole year? If so, then my answer is that I prefer to make promises that I'm fairly confident I can keep!
Also, I said that I planned to write Edited Guide entries, not Post articles. That's not to say that I *won't* contribute anything to , but right now I'm still catching up on all the Edited Guide entries I wanted to write for ages, but never got around to because I was always busy with my
column!

Hi Ormie,
Well kind of to give up smoking - yet again! But I haven't actually started stopping again yet!
I've been pretty stressed lately with a lot of personal stuff, but hopefully I can resolve it all in the New Year and then finally give up smoking for good!
It's really daft that I smoke at all, I gave up for 12 years and then started again about 3 years ago, so I know I can do it!

Hello people,
First up, congrats to Ormondroyd for sticking to his resolutions in the past year, but you know I think you're cool As for myself, I have several plans, but I'm trying to take it one day at a time. My mum gave me a sewing machine for Christmas, and I mean to learn to make my own clothes and other stuff for the house. Tomorrow I'll be starting at my local gym, and I mean to stick to that.
I will try to make changes, every change I possible can, although life still hurts a lot at the moment, and I'm upset and sad and scared.

I think it's important to take things one step at a time. I'm going through a lot of lifechange type of stuff at the moment, I know how hard it can be. Even a tiny little step in the right direction is a good one! Good luck with 2003 Greta_9!

Yes, little steps... I've been doing that scince September with my diet (in general), just stop gentaly eating some things and start eating others, I don't notice so much because it's so gradual. I'll give it another year or so until I'm were I want to be.

Dieting? No thanks Actually, starting at the gym will give me a chance to eat more spaghetti, because I'll burn all the fat from the muscles and only put them where they're supposed to go, like my chest, for example (well, one can dream). I've lost so much weight in the last few months I've gone down one size, and it's not like I was overweight to begin with.
So bring on the chocolate

it's not dieting in the modern sense of stop drop and give your self a salad. it's more a 'reform, ratified by your brain', give it long enough you could get anyone eating invisible apples.
