Can't leave the back door open for the dogs without getting chilly, having cold toes and be constantly wanting to get up and shut it.

Just bought £75 worth of oak logs for the fire. Amazing: they burn for hours on end. And they smell lovely. I love the really still autumn evenings when you can light a fire and watch the smoke rise in a perfectly vertical stream.

And fir cones make such good kindling.

Don't they explode or something?

I haven't even got a gas fire.

Also I had to put my slippers on this morning. Brr... And may be considering digging the gloves out for the 8am walks next week.

As I drove home at midnight last night, I thought there was ice on the windscreen. I might have imagined it. It was *very* cold though.

I'd better start waterproofing my coat after a summer of hanging around in the hall. I don't really like summer that much, but prefer not to be too cold.

No, fir cones don't explode. What you're thinking of are *gas cylinders*. They don't make good kindling at all, I've found.

We're still resisting putting on the central heating but have fired up the wood burner a couple of times and I'm now quite distressed if one of the children has hidden my slippers. But it is meant ot be scorchio tomorrow

I started out with my thermals on under my polo shirt, but took it off when I got back to the car at about 9am (I'm not shy, no sirreee). Was VERY hot today between 11 & 2, but seems to have got chilly suddenly, so I'm having some toast and .

Just put the heating on for an hour or so in the mornings. Not because it's cold, but because I have lots of wet towels I need to get dry!
