Huh, so everyone likes BT and hates Virgin... Interesting.

We tried BT when we first moved into our house, about 7yrs ago. We told them that the TV and Phone would be nice but we needed the internet (and I mean medically need the internet!!). They said "Sure, no probs".

What they meant to say was "Sure, the internet connection stops 200 yards away from your house and we will mess about for a month not telling you this."

We have had a happy and reliable relationship with Virgin ever since.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Can't fault virgin on their connection; maybe down three or four times in a decade... But the price is a rip off... I'm paying £44 per month, just for the internet really; true there is a phone line but I don't use that a great deal and ou can't have one without the other... They keep calling me up and telling me how I can save money by taking out a TV package (apprently having the Cable TV plus broadband plus phone, is cheaper than just having phone and Broadband), but I don't want bluddy TV... They just can't understand this, and so I'm stuck paying for it smiley - doh If I could get a BT line with a decent speed, then I could get the internets providered by a third party, and it'd be maybe twenty quid a month for the same speed broadband I get now, plus whatever the basic charge from BT is to have a phone line in smiley - ermsmiley - huhsmiley - doh
Virgin speed on the broadband can be a little* patchy during differnt times of the day though; they're not as good as NTL (the previous cable company who opperating here before the government allowed Virgin to form a total monopoly of the entire Cable network in the UK),

Err but NTL alloted the bandwidth better to users so if like me your paying for the largest broadband package, you'd be alloted a suitable amount of bandwidth... Virgin tweek about with it during the day and basically I subsidise people on the cheaper packages as part of my bandwidth gets turned over to them during 'peek time' smiley - huhsmiley - headhurtssmiley - cdouble

I miss ... the days before the internet, when people, like, you know... used to ... meet... and talk to each other smiley - huhsmiley - ermsmiley - silly

Wait until BT starts rolling out the old fibre optic, then Virgin will just have to force their prices down.

I miss Telewest. They were awesome smiley - sadface

Yes... but its a long wait; I remember looking about the areas they're planning to do in the first few years of the roll out... no where near me smiley - wah and in the meantimes... oo about £4K the past ten years or so I've lived here, just for internet and phone line smiley - dohsmiley - yikessmiley - wah I mean... I hardly ever use the internet much these days... long gone were the times when I'd be on 19 of every 24 hours... I'm lucky to get even just 15 or 16 hours on the net a day any more smiley - ermsmiley - blush

"Wait until BT starts rolling out the old fibre optic, then Virgin will just have to force their prices down."

They are doing this in my town now. Bloody BT vans parked up on the side of the road, always in at least pairs and sometimes there are three, and the town is crawling with them. What the hell are they thinking? Can't they put two people in the same van!

I can't check when they are doing what area, I can't find anything that tells me. I asked one of the BT blokes though.

I vagely remember reading a news article about it when they announced it... It just gave the towns etc, not individual roads or districts smiley - doh but I did notice that here wasn't on ther list smiley - wah
