I was considering giving myself 100% pay rise to the princely sum of £100 a week.

Before I got round to it I lost 3 dogs permanently, I had a week off, half term happened and another 3 dogs were off for that week then on Friday I heard another dog wasn't very well and wouldn't need me for 6 weeks.

Added to that the accident and the bodged up replacement motor I bought and the cost of the hire van, I'll be lucky if I can afford to pay myself anything for about a month.

Whose bloody idea was going self-employed?

It's bloody hard work being self employed and when things go bad they go really bad, mostly because there's no safety net - it's all on your shoulders. But they'll go better eventually, and nothing beats being your own boss. If you were to give it up now and get a job it wouldn't be long before you forget all the bad times and remember it like your childhood - always sunny, never raining.

I don't think I could work for anyone else now!? Choosing my own hours (loads) and wages (sod all) is the life for me.

But I love (nearly) every minute of the actual job. Just everything came at once when the year started so promisingly!

Two steps forward, one step back. You aren't *right* back at the start. So it's not such a hard climb back to the top of the world.

Thank you! Have had some boarding deposits in for Easter now, so that's topped up the bank a bit and made me feel a bit more secure. Just for 20 odd years I've watched my dad (taxi driver) spend his earnings as soon as he got it, then struggle with unexpected bills. I know things are slightly different for me, but as my bank balance dipped so did my spirits. I feel better when I have some 'emergency' funds.
