h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Spent ages on a powerpoint presentation, just gone to check it, just for fun, and it's completely vanished!? Only two slides on there, all my slides and notes completely missing.

I know what I've done. I started it on my netbook, then moved to my laptop as I knew I needed access to the pictures, then the next time I updated the laptop with the netbook files (did a lot of word docs on the netbook) I must have copied over the old file.

How can I get it back? It took me hours and hours and bleeding hours.

Have you found it yet? That's so annoying!

I'd do an auto search for 'all powerpoint files', and then look for the presentation with that date? You might find that there's an autosaved version?

No, it's gone. I wiped it. A lesson learnt, I'll find some other way to keep the laptop updated. At least it was something reasonably simple, not something really important, like my year's accounts or something.

I can redo it.

Hmmm... I'm pretty good at pressing Ctrl+S to save my documents quite often, but it seems it would be wise to use Save As instead.

It's not that I didn't save it, more that I then stupidly saved *over* it with an older version.

I've got other documents with all sorts of odd names as I've created lots of copies, but just didn't think about it in this case. It's just teething problems getting used to working with two computers, and using them as a back up for each other.
