Thanks for the warm welcome.I think I'm going to like it here. There's so much stuff, it truely is like the actual Guide. More material than the Library of Congress and the Encyclopaedia Galactica combined!
Right now my only access is at work (where I'm at right now "working on the company's mailing list"), so until I get a new computer set up at home I won't be able to do much exploring.
Your research sounds fascinating. I was diagnosed with MD when I was a teenager, but it seems to have gone away - or the highs and lows are no longer quite so extreme. Do you support chemical treatment, psychological treatment or both?
Where I work and the majority of people I meet aren't precisely morons, but they're not all that well educated and whenever I try to meet intellectuals via social gatherings (MENSA-ites, etc.), all they do is either talk down to me (becaues my IQ isn't 300) or they spend all their time trying to impress me. Hello! You're in MENSA! You invented the Atomic Clock, you don't have to try to impress me! **sigh** Since I work for a record label that specializes in heavy metal music, I'm sure you can imagine the conversations we have here. Not that I don't get along with everyone, it's just frustrating having to explain what a samurai is to the warehouse manager.
I'm sorry, I'm rambling. Hoping this finds you in fine form and good health,
Cheers

Hello, no probs for the greeting, that's what us ACEs are here for after all. I only got made one on Friday so you are priveleged to be amongst my first greetees (if that's the word) .
I'm sure you will like it here, there are so many little clubs and societies and just plain silly things to do here that its no problem finding your own little niche. One thing that I liked is that I put down some of my own interests on my homepage and people wrote in and agreed and gave praise - usually people look down on these things and so I knew I was amongst friends
Personally as I said on my home page, my expertise (if you can call it that ) on MD is purely chemical - I merely work on an enzyme that is thought to be the therapeutic target of Lithium so I can't really comment too much about psychological treatment but I'm sure that both forms of treatment should be used. I have an aunt who is quite a severe Manic Depressive so I know what it can do to someone. Its a horrible condition, I hope you remain free of it.
I know what you mean about the work access thing. When I first joined h2g2 about 18 months ago, I got really into it, then they had a crackdown at work and I had to stop for a while and was gone for nearly a year - only when I got home internet use did I properly return. But I'm back with a vengence now!
I work at a university so I know very well what you mean by intellectual snobbery. I hate it - who cares what your IQ is? I thought about trying a proper MENSA test once but just decided I hated almost every aspect of it. I've got proper qualifications not some pseudo-qualification which can only be used for mutual back-slapping at MENSA conventions. I prefer the company of people who are good, entertaining company who make me laugh and have respect for me, a million times better than a high IQ.
BTW, I like heavy metal too, ug!
Orcus, in fine form and good health

If you're looking for metal, I can find it for you. We have our own bands plus we distribute lots of others on other labels.
Anyway, gotta dash. At work. Gonna get in trubble.
Yours in pudding,

Hi again, I'm afraid its not allowed to post url's outside the bbc site in the forums here, you can in articles though so if you repost it on your homepage (or you can even specifically create a new article to put links into) I can link to it from there.

BTW, my homepage for ages had just plain old URL links on it until I learned the GuideML (i'm not a computer techy).
So you can just type in the complete URL somewhere on your homepage and it becomes a hyperlink automatically. If you learn GuideML though, you can make links even more snazzily though. Just shout if you fancy having a go - its pretty easy
