Welcome to the home of Matt "the Minstrel" DeBlass
Hello, how are you today?
Hmmm...I've never been sure how to introduce myself. Well, let's start with what I do.
In addition to all sorts of boring day jobs, I play a number of instruments in several contexts, occasionally in front of people and sometimes for money. I'm currently fronting a band called Fish on Friday (Catholic in-Joke), which combines traditional music from around the world with a kind of jazz/rock influence. In short, I like weird music.
I also collect traditional songs, especially ballads, in the old sense of songs that tell stories. This, as you might have guessed, is where I got the nickname of "the Minstrel". I play :Celtic Harp, Flute, Percussion and Drums, Guitar,Pennywhistle, and I sing, as well as picking up whatever I come across andtrying to get noise out of it. My band also has a page at http://members.home.com/fishonfriday/" >http://members.home.com/fishonfriday/
/>In addition to my obsession with music I like to read up on everything from sculpture to psychology, and am generally curious. I'm a big fan of folklore and mythology. Favorite authors are, aside from the obvious: Charles de Lint, John Barth, Terry Pratchett, Terry Goodkind, and Sherri S Tepper
Favorite Bands include: The Cheiftans, Capercaille, Rush, Eric Clapton, Seven Nations and Fish on Friday
