Reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Dave Eggers). I am about halfway through and getting bored. No, there's is nothing wrong with the book. The author's wit and sarcasm is fascinating.
I prefer pain to descriptions, even if they are ironic, of the talanted youth of San Fransisco. It seems as long as you are a part of that vibrating, living you can laugh at it, but if you have left it behind by choice or because you couldn't make it work for you then you are struck by it. Slapped in the face by it. Yes, it possible you can look at it from a distance while being there, but you couldn't possibly distance yourself from it. As long as you are there you are a part of it.
Envy is such a raw tool to messure reality with, isn't it. I am going to have to keep reading though, perhaps I'll get over it.

If you want a great book about discovering what it is to be human, try "Pinocchio in Venice" by Robert Coover. Fantastic book! How do we learn to be the people we are and what happens when we lose sight of who we are?
Also try "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Alexander Solzenisyn. It helped me put my life in perspective.

Try also "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying" Tough read. I have tried it three times now, but only get a short way into it. It is hard to describe. It is a great phylosophy, but I felt that I wasn't ready to go any further and to learn any more than what I had. I know a few friends who feel the same.
Perhaps you will have better luck with it than I.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
