We're finding it a little difficult, as the family all want to be very involved and keep things moving at a pace they like. But we're both very laid-back and are quite happy with our approach to things, so reconciling the two is rather difficult at times. We'll get there, though
Can't believe you have an 18-year-old son!
Gotcha !

family involvement is always difficult to deal with. You have my sympathies. I'm sure you'll manage to get everything arranged.
Oh, and that's just my youngest, my eldest son will be 21 in October.
Gotcha !
Skankyrich [?] Posted Aug 8, 2009
Yeah, we'll get everything sorted out. It's just that our timescale is different to everyone else's. She was quite upset last night, bless her, but we're going to try to crack on with the arrangements as a kind of compromise. Basically, once the invites are out, everyone else's involvement ends, so we can do the rest at our own pace
How's things with you at the moment, anyway? I miss our chats when I can't get online.
Gotcha !
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Aug 8, 2009
I miss our chats, too.
I'm actually enjoying the summer break, although I'm sure I'll have withdrawal symptoms before we're back.
I'd like to write something, but can't decide what.
Work is surprisingly busy. It's usually dead quite during the summer holidays, but that may well still come.
I guess your work must be incredibly busy right now?
Gotcha !
Skankyrich [?] Posted Aug 8, 2009
We're very busy. Usually, at this time of year, we're all exhausted, but I introduced new working patterns to virtually guarantee all staff two days off a week if they wanted them, and we're all still fresh. Small victory
We should put together an issue with more navel-gazing articles, you know. It would suit the mood better than the 'best of' specials. We don't *have* to stop for the summer if we don't want to, you know
Gotcha !
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Aug 8, 2009
Oh, I know we don't *have* to stop for the summer, but I think it's only fair that our contributors should get a break.
Navel gazing articles? Such as?
Gotcha !
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Aug 8, 2009
Oh, and two days off a week during a very busy time sounds great. Does 'all staff' include you?
Gotcha !
Skankyrich [?] Posted Aug 8, 2009
Ben's series of h2g2's Place in Internetland? Any of the stuff about the Post's early days? It's late and I can't think too well offhand, but there's a lot of h2g2 philosophy that's still relevent - even if only in terms of getting people to think a bit.
All staff includes me Though I am always available in a crisis; at 4am or on my day off!
Gotcha !
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Aug 8, 2009
Yes, Ben's series would probably be timely. I'll try to have a look for other articles in that vein.
I hope emergencies aren't a regular feature.
Rich, I'm off to bed now. I'd love to stay and chat, but it's getting early.
Email me with any ideas?
Have a good night.

Skankyrich [?] Posted Aug 8, 2009
Yeah, will do. I'm busy with being a good cricket host tomorrow, then sorting out wedding suits on Monday, but if you can get thinking too that would be brilliant.
Sleep well

I see you won.
We should definitely give this A44364495 another airing.
Do you think we could have a separate slot on the FP, like we had for the last Stretcher?

I've been a bit stupid here.
I kept away as a kind of professional thing, so you wouldn't have an ex-Ed moaning about your work. It's only right that The Post should be yours without interference.
On the other hand, I've ignored a friend, and I apologise for that. I don't really seem to have time for anyone at all at the moment, but I should have found a moment to say hi at some point over the last couple of months.
'Hi'
Gotcha !
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Dec 25, 2009
You did now, and I'm a happy because of it.
I've been just as stupid. I assumed you needed to get some distance and I didn't want to come whining to you at the first problems I encountered.
I miss you, as a friend and Post expert, but then I *have* to make my own decisions now - be they right or wrong - it's a learning curve.
As you can imagine, I've been somewhat busy, too, with the usual PC problems plus a very slow connection to BBC sites thrown in for good measure.
It's absolutely lovely to hear from you, you've made my day.
Gotcha !

You always make me laugh. And it's funny how a little smiley on a thread like this can make one's day, eh?
Love you to bits, you
