Well, whenever you're ready, give me a shout!
Just been up to the garden centre, and their display was rubbish. And they didn't have any hawthorns...

What sort of garden centre has no hawthorn! It's one of the most popular hedging/tree there is.
I finally got round to buying a dvd player today....but i forgot to buy a scart lead It'll have to wait for another time now

Skankyrich [?] Posted Nov 27, 2006
Oh, they're rubbish up there. It seems you can buy anything except whatever you might actually want...

I'm sorry you were'nt able to get what you wanted. Unfortunately i don't think i could send hawthorn through the post

Skankyrich [?] Posted Nov 27, 2006
Not the kind of thing that would fit in a padded envelope! There are other places I can go to, further away, so I'm sure I'll find it somewhere

Were you after a large tree or some hedging? Only i know you can order bare rooted hedging through the post
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted Nov 27, 2006
I want a small tree, really, so maybe a hedging plant will do. I can't move my gorses and heathers over until I've got the tree, so I'm a bit stuck right now.

I'll have a look at work tomorrow and post you an address/website or phone number.
Ummmm...are you planning to move those shrubs soon? I only ask because now is not the best time to move plants, unless the weather stays mild. Once the frosts start you should wait untill early March really
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted Nov 27, 2006
That's why I want to get them moved soon - we don't ever get frost here until almost Christmas at the earliest, and normally it's late January before we get it. I've got heathers waiting to be planted, too, so I need that tree soon!

Have you tried looking on the net? There is a place called Parkers, that deliver plants and stuff all over the country. I don't know there addy of hand, but if you do a search for 'Parkers plants' it may come up with the site
Sorry i can't be any more help just now, all the info is at work
Btw, i was just reading all your coast path entries. They are very good, well done!

Yes, I've thought about the online option, but I'm never sure when I'm going to have time to do the planting! I was hoping that I could pick one up today and plant it the same day; the problem is if it arrived at a time when I was busy it could sit around for a few days, which would be far from ideal. I'm sure I'll find one locally soon enough...

I see your point, i guess the addy's won't really be much use to you then.
You don't seem like your usual self today Are you ok?

Skankyrich [?] Posted Nov 27, 2006
Yes, I'm just a bit frustrated with the volunteering. I'm not doing anything with the extra time I've got off work, because nothing's happening! So I'm just feeling a bit down, more lethargic than anything really. I've had a few days off when I've had literally nothing to do, and I hate that. I'm busy again next week, but this one is proving very dull

Aawww It's horrible being bored, then when the lethargy sets in....
I've just had a few days off, mainly to rest and shake off the remains of a cold which has lasted for weeks.
I had a stroke of luck today. I had a statement come through from a place i thought i'd finished with years ago. It's turns out i had 2 accounts, one which i had closed and the other i had completely forgotten about! So i have far more than i thought i did

I don't know whether to feel sorry or happy for you! Isn't it great when you have a bit of luck, especially with money? I'll have to have a look at those courses to figure out what you can spend it on
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Nov 27, 2006
Ahh yes, the courses Once you let me know what ones you are planning on doing, i can work out what time off i might need
One that i really, really want to do, is the weekend with wild orchids. I reckon i can get there without too much trouble and it falls on my weekend off aswell.
Will i need to buy a small rucksack? I wonder if they do them in pink!
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted Nov 27, 2006
Yes, I will do - the course book is still on my desk with a highlighter pen, but I'm too lethargic to do anything with it at the moment I'm still not sure about my own finances yet, either, so I'm not sure if I'll do two or three courses.
You'd need a small rucksack or similar, waterproofs and walking shoes/boots, and they might ask you to bring a particular book for reference too, depending on the course. They normally provide everything else, though.
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Nov 27, 2006
I already have walking boots, so thats no problem. When you say waterproofs do you mean one of those jacket things that roll up really small? You can tell i'm new to this can't you Not the dreaded 'KEY' book!
Have you got the hang of it yet? I'm useless with it and still rely on what i already know, guessing and my other flower book
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted Nov 27, 2006
Well, it depends what course you do. I doubt if you'd need the key on an orchid weekend, but on more general wildflower id courses you might. I still haven't got much of a clue about it, either... It doesn't need to be a waterproof that rolls up or anything expensive, just something that will definitely keep you dry if the weather is bad
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted Nov 27, 2006
I don't think i possess anything waterproof in the way of jackets, i do have a roll of bin bags though
No, i won't need it for the orchids, thats just a looking and photographing weekend. The downs is apparently very good for orchids. I saw a programme on tv about it, the views are fantastic and there are lots of other flowers there too. That will be my holiday for the year
