Hi there, and welcome to h2g2!
I am Roadkill, and I'm an ACE smiley - biggrin (Assistant Community Editor). This means that I'm here to help. If there's something you're puzzled about smiley - erm, don't hesitate to ask me or one of my fellow ACEs.

I have enjoyed reading your introduction smiley - smiley. If you are interested in the Royal Navy , you might like to check out smiley - thepost <./>thepost</.> , h2g2's weekly newspaper. There's a column in there by a guy who was in the Royal Navy for many years -- you might like it smiley - ok.

Incidentally, what did you think of Cambridge? I live there smiley - biggrin.

And so we come to the links. These are to help you find your feet, and jump-start you into the community smiley - run.

The smileys: These are the cute little yellow things that are liberally dotted around the screen smiley - smiley. You can find an index of them at <./>Smiley</.> or by clicking on whichever smiley you want to learn how to do.

The H2G2 Post have made a nice little links page for those of us that don't carry them around in our heads smiley - doh. You can find it at A616718 .

For a longer welcome, go to the Welcome that the nice people (usually called the Italics, as their names appear in italics in the who's <./>online</.> menu) who keep the site running have written at <./>Welcome-Newcomers </.>
it's got a lot of the basic background and how-to’s that you will need - a good place to start

Then you can take the H2G2 Tour at A317459 to see how it all works.

If some of the H2G2 terms leave you a little confused, there is a great page about it at A632431.

Oh, and also: Don't Panic. If you do, then go to <./>DontPanic </.> for all your FAQ needs.

Hope to see you around, bye for now, and if you need anything, ask.
Roadkill smiley - ok.

Wow, this whole world is somewhat overwhelming. Better take it slow, or I may have some sort of overload...

In response to whether I liked Cambridge, I LOVED it! We mostly toured the university, because my dad went to Trinity College and so we had to go investigate, but it is the most BEAUTIFUL place!! We happened upon a market and I got a terrific book that I'd been searching for, in addition to some cool clothes, and we had lunch in a lovely sort of traditional English food shop which my dad had eaten in when he was in university there. Yes, I quite enjoyed Cambridge smiley - biggrin

I must thank you for sending me this welcome, it is rather kind. I shall rather enjoy this environment, I believe! smiley - biggrin

My dad is currently a fellow at trinity smiley - biggrin

It is a pleasure to send you the welcome!

Many new users start off by 'lurking' -- reading threads but not actually contributing. In fact, some of h2g2's most eminent researchers started off that way. If you want to do this, I'd suggest starting off with h2g2's weekly newspaper, smiley - thepost <./>thepost</.> , as it has a lot of articles (the cartoons are good too) and the threads discussing them are often interesting too smiley - ok.

Anything else you want help with, do ask me. I'm happy to help smiley - smiley.
