Just had to tell you I recently saw a new Dr Who episode where he decends into a black hole. It was well shot and unlike most TV images it actually left me feeling just a little queasy and fear struck.
As I watched him spinning on the end of his line (ten miles down!) I think I finally began to appreciate what you do and the guts required.

Thanks, but it is *much* easier in the dark.
Climbing a 30m cliff on a Via Ferrata in daylight, I really find it hard to look down.
Hanging around at the top of a 200m shaft underground, I'd only really be thinking about how long it's going to take to climb back up.
Mind you, when throwing rocks down a newly-discovered shaft to gauge the depth by timing their fall, having stones taking a *long* time to reach bottom does sometimes cause a bit of nervousness.
