I went to a garden party, ...
Posted Dec 31, 2005
I know journals are not my forte, rare as they are. But I pondered what I might do for one as we approach the New Year. Well, a sad anniversary today kinda put it together for me. Today is the 20th anniversary of the passing of a musician that I have always enjoyed, ... Ricky Nelson.
(For those of you who don't know who I mean, ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricky_Nelson )
Specifically, 2 of his tunes have always rung true with me. "Garden Party", when he was boo'd out of Madison Square Gardens for not playing his traditional stuff, but for being who he was. Well, I entered h2g2 as a personna ... And when I left it behind to be who I truly am, I lost quite a number of "friends". Some going their own ways, others because I couldn't continue to be the care-free, playing lad that I had portrayed. One or two because they had also out-grown their original personnae and friends. And so, "Garden Party" suits me well, ... To quote the chorus, "But it's all right now, I learned my lesson well. You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself."
The other tune that is exactly me, is "It's up to you" (Again, for those not in the 'know', ... http://www.lyricsdomain.com/18/ricky_nelson/its_up_to_you.html )
With every person I have known in real life and on-line, my simple understanding has always been clear. I will never push or crowd a connection or relationship. It is fully up to the other to stay or go, as they choose. I am NOT a door mat to be walked on, but I will leave it up to the other party ...
So with these thoughts in mind, I enter a New Year without resolutions other than to simply BE who I am. No false fronts, no alter-ego's in some perpetual role-playing game, ... simply me. And with this to offer, I wish anyone reading this (friend, lurker or curiosity seeker) a fine, healthy and happy new year to come.

Some thoughts, and a suggestion
Posted Dec 20, 2005
Pretty well everyone that I know of is aware of one very annoying "Researcher". He drops into threads, spouting something totally unrelated to the discussion at-hand. And if some-one points this out to him, he screams of being bullied, harassed, hated, etc. Or demands that everyone play by his rules.
The most sensible thing to do, as I see it, is to actively ignore any of his postings. Do NOT encourage him, in any way. Some people manage this for quite awhile, but then sooner or later, someone DOES reply to him. And everything becomes a mess again.
So I have a suggestion. Anyone who reads this, ... and if you too have found him to be a bother, ignore him. AND then create your own journal along these lines. So that all of your friends can see sense and wisdom. I imagine that in a very short time, hundreds of unrelated researchers will be having the same idea.
Perhaps, if he finds no one responding to his "ways", he just might go away. Because we all know that he will never change.

Wow !!! It's been a year already ...
Posted Sep 23, 2005
... since I last had anything meaningful to post. Some of you will recall how on-edge I was, as my little girl went a day late, then 3. And finally, a full week over-due, my other favourite grandson was born.
So here, I shout a "HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY" to that massive little man, Nathan.

Get out of my head, you blasted thing !!!!!
Posted Feb 3, 2005
For my own benefit, a space to drop tunes that occassionally get stuck in my head. This one has been with me for a few weeks, but haunted me through much of my later teens ...
A winter's day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island
I've built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need for friendship
Friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock
I am an island
Don't talk of love
Well, I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber
Of feelings that have died
If I'd never loved,
I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no-one and no-one touches me
I am a rock
I am an island
And the rock feels no pain
And an island never cries

A healthy, happy and safe festive season to all
Posted Dec 23, 2004
I dont' know if many have me listed as "friend". But to those who have, I offer wishes for the happiest, healthiest and most enjoyable season for all. Reguardless of your perspective, it IS a season to reflect and appreciate the friends and family you have. And cherish them.
Please, if you know of other friends of mine and ours out there, pass the sentiment along.
For this past year of friendship and sharing of time, happy or woeful, I thank you all. &
