I'm sorry if I'm part of the reason that's chased you away from the Language thread. I think it still has potential, despite. Please give it another go. You are always a voice of sanity.

smiley - laugh *Always* a voice of sanity? Man, I wouldn't even agree with that myself...

To tell you the truth, I feared it was on the verge of turning into one of those lonnnnnnnng, ubiquitous threads all about procedural stuff on h2g2, the politics of who can do what, and all that jazz. That stuff has its place, but there's been plenty of it lately and I've a low threshold for it.

I'll give it another go.

Well, yes. I'd hate it all to become Official. We don't *need* Community Volunteers and their precious cub scout badges. We can work it out for ourselves in a messy, creative anarchy. And if it goes smiley - titsmiley - tit up...no kittens will die.

How do you find reading Hugh Mac or Burns, being a Scouser? Or maybe you've lived in Scotland long enough now to find it plain enough?

My English is peppered with all that kind of vocab. I don't even realise it, mostly.

Well...let's just say I find them slightly less plain than natives. But then I didn't get Burns at school.

McDiarmid knew he was incomprehensible anyway. Burns was laying it on a bit thick.

smiley - shrug Does an Ulster Feinian get all the Scouse references in Henri or Patten or McGough or Lennon...

aint poetry cool? smiley - biggrin

'course in the Hun schools in Norn Irln they used to stick the kids' hands in bunsen burners. That's why you get 'The Red Hand of Ulster' Tiochfaidh ar la and Tongs Ya Bas!

I wonder how many many Moderators would be capable of following that conversation between two ordinary, native English speakers? But I'd refuse to translate it.

smiley - winkeye
