Thank you very much Matt! smiley - biggrin
Yes after five years at the good old BBC, it's time to wander around pastures new.

Heh heh yes the Olympics... I'm sure Natalie and Jim will squeeze some excellent entries out of you all there. I'll be checking in too.

If you have any tips about Canada, they'll be much appreciated! smiley - cheers

If YOU have any queries about our little domain, you're certainly welcome to ask. I've seen a few parts of it in my nearly *ahem* 47 years.

Good Luck, and welcome. smiley - smiley

Well Vancouver is looking to be our first stop-off point... how do you rate the place? (And yes I'm steeling myself against the thought of weeks of continual rain!). Looking forward to making the most of the great outdoors - hopefully the snow too. smiley - cool

I've never made it to west of those hills called the Rocky Mountains. How-ever, a brother has lived there for well over a decade. Be prepared for high prices on nearly everything, lots of wetness as you mention, and no snow. I seem to recall they saw some just 8 or 9 years ago, so it'll be a while again. But for natural beauty, I have been told that it's very hard to beat.smiley - smiley

Ultimately, what part of the country is your new employment challenge located in?

Oh, and an obvious place to stop by is the "Chief Gordon Lightfoot" thread in the ASK forum. There are a number of westerners that frequent that thread.

Thank you Rev. Nick!

Vancouver is likely to be our main 'place of work' - from where we'll hopefully get into the mountains and over to Vancouver Island to see the sights. We may head east to Toronto too.

Wow, there's a healthy Canadian contigent - great to see! smiley - ok

From that Researchers list, I might guess that a quarter of them are reasonably active. The sure'est option is the common ASK thread though. Because if someone is gone quiet at the moment, it's a fair bet that someone will have an alternate way to reach someone.

If and when you opt for a bit of Toronto, I'd suggest flying though. We are a BIIIIIG country to drive across. smiley - laugh And if you over-shoot by a couple more hours, do call in on me. smiley - smiley

What I´ve learned about Vancouverians, know and worked with a few, is that they have webbed toes and never get any tan - they rust... smiley - winkeye

...and Stanley Park is just lovely! Don´t miss the aquarium and the wild life, lots of birds and giant ...smiley - erm compared to ours anyway... sqirrels.

smiley - laugh Yes, I have described our common black squirrels to a couple of folks in England. There were astounded at both the size and the colour.

All this talk of squirrels has got me hungry. mmm. smiley - drool

Anyway, I'm sure you'll love it over there Beth. I've not been, but I've never heard anything bad - apart from the smiley - monster squirrels and overly friendly natives. Damn them for being SO congenial.
