Just popping by to ask you a bit more about the diet you mentioned. Though I'm not sure I'm concerned about crystals for nuthin. As I said, my rescue cat actually became blocked shortly after bringing him home (he was 5 months old at the time) but putting him on the Science Plan CD diet cleared this up - close to nine years ago. So it may have been related to his 'street diet' - even though I was feeding the 'family' I know he also scrounged food elsewhere. And I really do think my other male (now 12) was misdiagnosed (it took me years to find a vet I could trust). But I'm always willing to get more information, so if you could post the link for me that would be great.

Meanwhile, a bit of snooping around your PS shows me that you are Danny B's 'better half'. And I also think that neither are you are yet in my h2g2 friends photo gallery! So if you would like to join us there (or just have a look at the gallery) here's a link:

And here are my 'gatitos':

Hi Az,

Nice to meet you! smiley - smiley

The link is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rawpaws/

It's a Yahoo group so you'll need to be signed in. It's a great group, mostly based in the US though there are a few of us UK-ers on there. They are really supportive and helped me loads when I was starting up on raw, and since too. It's a list for cats, dogs and any other pet whose owners want to feed a more species-appropriate diet (eg. ferrets, birds). Most of the talk is about cats and dogs though.

The files area is where all the recipes are, along with lots of info on why we feed what we feed, flea, tick and worm treatments, essential oil use etc.

I imagine that the reason the specific SD formula for crystals helps is because it has methionine added to it, or some other similar thing. I still don't like it though. smiley - winkeye

Someone on the group works at a veterinary practice, and recently took several top branded pet foods (Science Diet, high-quality canned, low-quality canned etc) and listed all the ingredients of each. She then added a list of her own home-made raw recipe. She gave the lists to the vets without naming any of the products and asked them to list them in order of nutrition and appropriateness for cats. Her recipe came out on top. And Science Diet...last, with the vets admitting they would not feed it to their own animals on the basis of that ingredients list.

I hope you'll find the group useful. Don't feel you have to go over to raw if you don't want to, but personally, as soon as I found out about it, it seemed so logical - and as I said, my vet hates commercial cat and dog food and moans for ages about the illnesses he sees that are caused by it.

I'd be happy to chat more about it if you'd like. smiley - smiley

Re. your photo gallery - it's great! However...I think DannyB would have a fit if I put a pic of him on H2G2 (not that he's ugly at all, just rather private), so I'll pass if that's OK. smiley - winkeye

Your cats are gorgeous - and those kittens!!! Awwwwww!!! I've never had a kitten, my two were both adult rescues.
