A Bit about Me

A new member to h2g2.

By profession I am a Chartered Civil Engineer, having recently retired from my post of Bridges Manager (formally Chief Bridge Engineer - a title that I preferred) .

I am now enjoying myself, spending more time with my family and helping some friends in looking after their gardens.

One of my interests is all things Norwegian. My wife and I have spent many holidays travelling in Norway, from Stavanger to Kirkenes. I have taught myself Norwegian, but I don´t get enough practice in speaking the langauge. However, I have several shelves of Norwegian books, travel gudes, reference books, novels, and Thor Heyerdal´s biography. My ambition is to visit Svalbard. One of the books in my collection ´Svalbard Vårt nordligste Norge´ published by Ashehoug in 1991 is a great intorduction to this most northerly part of Norway.

Our son has lived in Norway for about ten years. He works as a church organist near Bergen.

Our younger son is an automotive engineer - he is encouraging me to build a kit car - has anyone any experience?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
