Why dance?
Dancing Tango is a passion not a hobby. I started dancing after being incapacitated I couldn’t walk for a month then just fifty yards and I was exhausted. Brain damage left me with severe difficulties in movement. Part of my brain died about the size of an acorn in the right side of my brain left me left side affected. I had to throw my left leg forward transfer my balance such as it was and pray I stayed upright. Additionally Propreoception was bad so I did not know where my left side was, bizarre or what. I still suffer from a lack of feed back from my left foot and hand, it’s like stimulus from an upside down jigsaw puzzle with the bits all spread about near each other so balance is still an issue. I started Dancing Ballroom, which was humiliating. I would start to move and stumble and sometimes fall get up and start again I would not give in to my body. Several years later I dance seven days a week Salsa, Ballroom and TANGO! I’m not a good dancer but who cares better that than stuck in a chair or walking with a stick. The strange thing is I dance better than I walk, so if you see someone dancing sown the street like Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain, that’s me. I listen to people (99% men) who say “I cant dance I’ve got two left feet” Right! And that stops you because? It’s an ego thing with men, if they can’t dance like the instructor within two weeks they give in and run away. Macho wimps!!!! It takes a real man to dance.
