My Interest in the war
Both my parents came from Liverpool, they told me stories of the Blitz andhow the war changed their lives. My mum (Anne) worked in a factory making aircraft landing strips, she was injured there with a large deep cut to the back of her calf, in them days compensation wasnt mentioned, she just got on with it.
Dad (Jack) was called up at the age of 18 in 1943, he went to Italy in January 1944 and saw plenty of action, he was wounded 15-02-1944 but returned to the firld after recovering, he worked his way up the country to Rome and finally ended up in villach in Austria.
The sad thing for me is he would never talk much about his war service, he just said he lost alot of good mates, so my reason for joining this project is to find out what
Pte 14562454 John Alfred Sinnott 2nd Battalion North Stafford Regiment did in the war,
so I will be asking many questions and hope to gain a great deal from the men who are still with us who gave up their youth to keep the world free for us all to enjoy
