Pondero

My name is Pondero and I am a little fed up with the Christian message board. It is anything but Christian in my view. I am not very good at writing a conversation posting as this is my first attempt.

My life has been a succession of failures ( tears of self pity). smiley - biggrin

That is a stupid post don't you think Selpra? Hardly a good way to introduce oneself to the h2g2 board. One good thing about talking to yourself is that you get good answers.smiley - smiley

Hello Pondero, we all fail sometimes, you can find me now, I have doubts about the CTMB board too.

I can't believe you wrote that! I always thought of you as successful. Being a chartered accountant in a government post certainly sounds like something to be aimed for. As for the cmb, Blue Rodeo puts it all out there for me: 'there's no need to explain the fine line between stealin and givin in the landscape of the saints.' (from the Seeker on the Days In Between album)

(This whole Christian walk business often lands us in the realms of paradox.)

In any case, your original post I think was before the Misses went in for her surgery. I am sure you both are feeling much better now. I am still ploughing through Thomas Merton these days. I thought I would have devoured it in three hours, which is my usual style. But it is so processional; so many struggles. My priest thought I would be able to identify with Merton's constant sense of shortcoming and lostness, but the book has only served to alienate me further. Hidey-ho; I guess I am just going to have to write my own book. Ani.

Ani:

I have no idea now why I wrote that original post. I was probably feeling fed-up at the time. I am a CMA (Certified Management Accountant) not a Chartered Accountant. There is a move afoot to integrate the two designations and have one body of accountants for all.

Yesterday, I attended a luncheon for a colleague who was retiring after 36 years service. I had a conversation with a man sitting next to me at a table. I asked him if there was more pressure on auditors to perform well nowadays, and if the pressure had increased since I retired . He said that the section heads get a bonus for good performance and that the team leaders under them in turn put more pressure on the auditors working for them to do well. I said that this was all wrong. He agreed.

I said that if this bonus thing is continued the next stage in the evolution of tax collecting will be to give the auditors a percentage of the assessments they get.smiley - smiley We will then be in the position of St. Matthew, a tax collector for the Romans.

That of course should never happen in any well run public service.
