55 years on
I am I retired Brit and have lived in the Republic of Panama since 1951 to grow bananas.
After I left school in Bedford I joined the army and after a few months service I joined the Indian army. It was a dream come true(thanks to seeing the film 'Lives of a Bengal Lancer') I returned home in 1947. Tried various jobs including shipping. banking. agriculture and salesman. Then came the chance of a job with an American company in Central America. From 1958 I had steady employment
until retirement in 1987. There are many gaps to fill but I'll leave those for the time being.
I have various hobbies, enjoy a good joke, have a good sense of humour. I like to keep in touch with most sports in the UK such as rugby, football(occasionally),rowing, cricket(just in case we win ???) and anything else British. Thanks to the BBC TV I keep myself informed on politics,stock market, the Royal family and the way of life as it is to-day. In a recent BBC study about 'favourite' year I chose Swan Song to 'olde Britain' because since 1951 I have looked at the goings on at home from a distance. They were good years for me as they were a stepping stone to the future. Many expats become local nationals. I never changed. I have two daughters one in Panama and the eldeest in the USA. I also have three super lovely granddaughters;a doctor a student of medicine in neighbouring Costa Rica and a chinese linguist (at a Chinese University)
Unfortunately I am a widower for 30 years and live alone with my books, model soldiers, my friend the computer. I hope I hear from other folk out there.
