Veejay I hope you enjoy your 'retirement' and forthcoming holiday in north Gloucestershire. Don't be tempted into speeding on the A40. It's the most speed camera infested road I know.

Happy Bx4. The weather forecast looks damp for all of us so make the most of the opportunity. Wet commute home for me in store, better go polish the board...
BTW I didn't realise that we had to go back to square one if we wanted to post to PoV or 5L. I'd have thought us TMB refugees would have been given a free transfer.

Evening rg
TMB: Yes I had a look. Bit weird though not as weird as the non appearance the 'all new' Today site. trouble at t'mill?
Alster Yawtists: Weird indeed. But not any weirder, IMO,than the ones who do regattas,Cowes Week, and that sort of stuff.
Back: Still not convinded back/burner combo is the greatest idea. The hill and dale thing is a good idea. With us it's more beaches and moors.
'Rickmer Rickmers' : Certainly not a two hander. Its very impressive. Steel hulled so quite late as far as windjammers go I would guess.
Motor cruiser: Once so something similar on Leeds-Liverpool canal. Large cabin cruiser of the Miami Vice drug runner type. Weird since speed limit 4mph.
18 footer: Nautical equivalent of a junkheap but it was fun in those long ago days when we weren't risk averse.
Linux: what browser? Most impressed by this maybe you should have a go at something like Red Hat.
ipod: I'll check it out with the gd's when she arrives. I still use a Walkman.
Masts. Your black spot is very odd. Before we had the masts we *could* get broadband due to an upgrade of exchanges.
Ex-smoker. I gave it up on SO's 'advice'. The doctor database things a bit odd. I wonder if it contains tags like 'Ex-Fatty'.
Filtered: Sounds a bit like the Telegraph and the Mail where apparently things are filtered for political correctness (but not as we know it, Jim).
Fallen trees. I had not realised how severe your weather had been.
Bull: Not really for me. Its very odd that a channel in which politics and current affairs are such a prominent feature contains no board on either.
Next post:
Heartlands: Not so sure. I think that this not new. Recent announcements on Youth drinking suggest continuing appeal to Middle England.
I was thinking things like seriously progressive taxation. taxing rich, scrapping 'choice', pulling out of Iraq, etc.,etc. Won't happen they are wedded to the NL project and are risk averse.
Clegg. You could be right but they haven't gone into a coalition here. Of course they suffered somewhat because of their coalition with NL and Salmond would only accept them a partners if the accepted a 2010 referendum. At least, unlike Bendy Wendy they haven't undergone a sudden conversion.
Feedback: Yes discuss it after it has been shutdown. Typically Reithian
Times article: There was a report that the new 'more independent' BBC Trust has just endorsed their spending shedloads of money on 'talent' like Woss.
Next post
Boxer run: Excellent The weather continues fine

premod: BBC is odd on this you get premodded on every board
must. My turn to make the evening meal.

TET posted on PoV to apologise for non-appearance of new site. We were again invited to go to 'HaveYour Say' or as an alternative now they point to PoV. The back is improving and burner is better than car because there is no headroom issue! The 'Miami Vice' cruiser – big fish in small pond? Linux being fronted mostly by Ubuntu while I've tried a couple of others on DVD CD. I still have a Walkman though haven't used it since the age of the Shuffle. If you could get Broadband why did you get funding for Masts? Do you live in a marginal constituency? Can we have your Broadband?
Youth drinking initiative costs nothing. Compare pupil spending in South Gloucestershire to Inner London. If Labour can't win the next election they want to secure their core vote to leave them a creditable opposition and foundation to build off. Bridge building starts now. The problem with your 'to do' list is that none of it is in the manifesto. On second thoughts it doesn't matter. I forgot that goes in the bin the day polling finishes.
I've written to Feedback ready for this week's programme. How long do we give the Five Live boards? Five Live will discuss BBC 'talent' later tonight. I'm glad the Boxer run went well. Does Bx4 SO like pillion? Pre mod – it was mean of Today not to grant a free pass to PoV and Five Live MBs. Enjoy your meal. I'm going to celebrate dodging the rain with a glass of wine. My header at the Doctor will soon be longer than the data section. Smoking, overweight, alcohol...

PoV: Thanks for the heads up. The irony, the irony! 'Technical difficulties'.
I have left a couple of my own thoughts. Still in rremod, of course
Back: good to hear its improving:
MV cruiser: The captain was sporting a 'commodore suit' and one encounter with strong cross winds was entertaining.
Ubuntu: Mint Lite use Ubuntu I know though we use Solaris, SUSE a heavily modded university developed variant.
broadband/masts: Both projects were EU funded, under different funding headings. The masts were an advanced proof of concept project (jointly with Finland).
We got it because we applied and because we had prior experience of the use of broadband as a tool to boost the local economy. No UK govt funding was involved.
Core vote: I think NL are irredeemably middle class. The relied on an o'old' labour core vote that's gone away. IMO, a miscalculation that they would continue to vote for NL because they had nowhere else to go.
Feedback: I wouldn't get your hopes up. That nice Roger Bolton is a Reithian insider he isn't going to do a Paxman.
Run: Excellent. We took a run right down the island and a ferry onto the next one.
Pillion: Only occasionally. Fortunately she's a 'natural' at it so it's not a problem Mostly I avoid pillion passengers.
Meal: Very healthy. A version of a Chinese steamed smoked fish with spring onions, Soy sauce and sesame oil seved with stir fried broccoli and fresh ginger. I am being very careful after the labskaus debacle.
overweight: Of course I didn't know. 'Ex-fatty' may have been unfortunate. Apologies. Any how 'hill and dale' stuff should help.

Fatty me – No offence taken - I am my own worst critic and have matters in hand. The trick is to have a shallow 'glide path'. Crash diets don't work (well not for me anyway). I have to say there are advantages to being on the heavy side on a burner. It makes it easier to put on the stand and leaning has more effect. Then again I must think of the fuel I put in, braking and acceleration also suffer with weight.
Oh my goodness me the "captain was sporting a 'commodore suit'". I can picture it, what a Wally. I have a new screen driver for Linux/Radion to try (with the intention to stabilise Ubuntu). As said I have three flavours to play with. I have chosen the 'African' chocolate because it is the lightest and so the easiest to get to grips with. Also I like economy in design. Thank you for explaining how your broadband was delivered. There was a short item in the six o'clock news that suggested that broadband speeds were slower in the countryside and this was creating a digital divide. Yes I've noticed!
I agree with your Labour core vote analysis. It will be interesting to see what Labour does should it lose the 2010 General Election. I suspect they won't and New Labour will enjoy a reprieve. The fact that Blair won three times in a row under the NL flag suggests to me that his version of the Labour Party won't be cast aside lightly.
I also agree about Feedback. Yes we'll get thanks and sympathy though Today has already moved on. It's a pity they didn't have the courtesy to offer us an alternative home other than the Mr. Angry 'hys'. Not even a pre mod dispensation. I'm pleased you enjoyed the run and Bx4 SO enjoys pillion. I had an edgy run in today because the road looked greasy (too little rain) and every sort of animal wanted to throw itself under my wheels (I missed the lot).
"Chinese steamed smoked fish with spring onions" - sehr gesundheitsfördernd.

glide path. Under the SO my 'glide path' is more continuous exercise regime than crash diet. The 'over hill and dale' strategy would be approved of.
Radion: I thought... then I realised it was a typo
broadband. I caught the end of it. The Scottish govt has a programme of bringing broadband access to everyone. Landline speed was less than masts.
commodore/wally. Indeed. We kept bumping into him. Almost literally once. He came tootling round a bend and seemed to want to play chicken. Us in a 40ft steel wide boat with considerable mass and inertia.. And then there was the high heel boots incident.....
Blair/three times: though it was twice.
Core vote: It may be that Cameron has peaked too early. The lack of actual policies may soon be noticed.
thanks and sympathy: We'll certainly get one of the usual flakcatchers telling us, as always, that the right decision was made.
animals: here its sheep and it's lamb training time at the moment. Does really work here - no hedges to conceal them us they lurk.
Weather : Rain forecast today so no run. Wind.....don't ask.
sehr gesundheitsfördernd: Indeed though the fish were not Chinese. This would not have been wholesome

"The 'over hill and dale' strategy" is good though it is not a weight saving plan. In fact SO says it is better to be overweight and fit than be a weakling with a perfect BMI. Radion – I copied the name onto a petrol receipt. Is that still a typo or even a washing powder? The high heal boots – Now your talking I love women in high heal boots. Big boots I call them. Blair – Are your right? I thought 1997, 2001 and 2005? Cameron – Peaked yes, no policies not a problem. I'll still listen to Feedback on Sunday out of interest to see if we're right. No hedges for bunnies and kittens to leap from – that's good. Wind 20mph westerly. Talk of food is making me hungry.

I wasn't worried about upsetting EEO (or whoever) I merely didn't want to appear to be upsetting anyone. I'm surprised as you as to what 'gets through' and what doesn't. End run - Go for it! It will be interesting to see how long it takes for you lose your newbie tag.

Plan
Bx4 Posted Jun 3, 2008
hi rg
Plan: I realised that it is 'back improving' plan but there may be unintended consequences
BMI. But if the enhanced BMI was a consequence of muscle rather than adipose.......
Washing powder: I confused it with Radox. I thought it was a cunning combined op sorting out Linux in a relaxing bath.
hh boots: His SO was a pretty women much younger than him (trophy) and not dressed for the rigour of canaling. (high heeled boots, designer jeans and jacket). The LL runs quite high in the Pennines and the crosswinds can be quite strong.
The commodores was 'managing' the transit through a lock while she was trying to tie up the boat. Strong crosswind catches superstructure she leans back and digs in heels. She slowly rotates, pivoting on heels, and ends up flat on face. The commodore meanwhile continues a Captain Bligh rant.
Cameron. A policy has been announced. Charities will be allowed to make a profit for providing contracted services to the public sector.
One or two problems but hey....I'ts a policy.
bunnies/kittens: We do have lurking kamikaze sheepdogs.
Wind: We have climbed to 20mph as well but we had a brief gust of 30mph yesterday so it may not mean much.
Hunger: resist, resist.

"Unintended consequences" – yes get me out of the house! Your interpretation of BMI is sympathetic. Ah Radox I never thought of that connotation. Enough on the "pretty woman" it's no good - stress induces weight gain (apparently). Flat on face – That's OK now the stress is dissipating. I missed the policy though from what you say it's profit driven – just what we need in the caring services. Sheepdogs – Yes they are a nightmare and can certainly spoil one's day. Wind still there last time I looked at the treetops. Hunger - Does a slice of someone's birthday cake count?

Three: You are right I forgot 2001.
out of house: I'll let that heatfelt(?) remark pass without comment
pretty women: I did leap Walter Raleigh - like to her aids. Her comments on the commodore were ....expletive deleted.
Policy: As somewhat pointed out charities are not allowed to make a profit. Waved aside. If they are isn't a bit like CCT?
Sheepdogs. and since the rural economy is sheep based here so......
Cake: I would never deny any cake.

thanks for the articles - informative.
Just for interest sake , would you (Boredbyfour) be able ot do the speed check on the bbc website link (see my earlier posting I think - on the page from bbc news there is an option to find out the speed you are connected at currently)
As i say, just for interest, what is the speed you get (ie not the official max speed but the actual speed)?
Thanks
I'll be offline for a bit now, but post when you can
