Sci Fi Writer Philip K Dick: Recovering the stories

""What happens if the shrub is re-elected and has the majority republican senate and supreem court overturn the admendment that limits the number of presidential terms?""
Actually when I said that I was just reaching for something contemporary to provide an example of what if.
It may not be very likely but is doesn't tax the imagination too much
When I first saw total recall I had already been told the ending would fustrate me. But with stories like that the imagination tends to make up or fill in for what you don't see. Everything gets something different.

I was just thinking about that today, when writing to my penfriend. Scary possibility, and there are other scary ones! What if he loses?
I feel a dystopian novel coming on...

As Martha Stewart would say. "That would be a good thing."

There was some discussion amongst the Republicans of overturning the limit on the number of turns a President could serve when Reagan won his 2nd term but I guess his Alzheimers put an end to that idea. Certainly the Reagan administration didn't support the idea.

I have a question. Did the origional writing behind total recall include the 'was-it-a-dream?'

Hi Bain. There are some links toward the end of my personal space. You can check this question out at one of those websites. It is my general (unsubstantiated) opinion that the films were composites of the literature.
I haven't been able to dedicate my usual energy to this thread. As you know all my books were stolen, so anything I have had to say has been from memory. I am waiting for a paycheck to arrive so that I can replace some of my lit crit books and some of the PKD literature. I have also been dog tired from running around lately. But if anyone can remember what life was like for them when they first encountered PKD, that might be a non-stress restart to this conversation. Ani.

Ani, I just got an email telling me that 'Do Androids' is in at the local library for me, which is good - I'll pick it up a.s.a.p., and get reading!
I remember first encountering Palmer Eldritch, and that's one of the two I have reserved. (I still think PKD is a bit like Zelazny, whose 'Roadmarks' I am re-reading.)

Hi Adelaide. Great to hear from you. I'm just waiting for my paycheck to come in and then I am off to the World's Biggest Bookstore to stock up on PKD and some lit crit. Somewhere around here is Castle and I am making some progress in reorganizing this place but nothing has shown up yet. Hows the weather down there? It is cold here. I finally broke down and put on my winter jacket. I was warm as toast. Ani.

How is the weather here? and ! (Truly - and it's half past spring, yeah, right!)
I have had another E from the libary, "Palmer Eldritch" is in as well, so I am off down the library tomorrow.. Wee-hoo... I am looking forward to it.

I don't give a hoot for Philip K Dick but I have asked you before privately, whether or not you contribute on the "little-birds" org. You haven't answered me. Perhaps, you will now that I am saying it in public. I have posted something on that board today about my religious conversion that may, or conversely, may not interest you. Who knows.

You asked a few days ago a question about Beano and Dandy. They are English comic books I used to read as a child, many, many years ago. If you are going to the World's Largest Bookstore, see if they have a book entitled "The Da Vinci Hoax" by Miriam (sp).? and Olson. I can't get it at Chapters.

Actually I was just at WBB yesterday picking up a Gadamer (Truth and Method). I think I did see a Da Vinci Code Hoax. As for Sparrows, evidently you have not twigged on to what has happened and I have to go to work now. I'll catch up to you later. Ani.
PS: I wouldn't wait too long for me to show up at Sparrows. So if you have something to say to me, leave a message on my h2g2 site. Ciao.

I started reading 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' last night. I was captivated.
I read only the first chapter before bed-time, and I had a few surprises already. Deckard has a wife, and she has a wonderful name (Iran)! I like the Penfield Mood Organ, and her programming six hours of self loathing despair... PKD conveys a sense of the society they live in, in a few pages. I am so looking forward to reading more.
The foreword in the edition I have, is by my favourite, Roger Zelazny!

Cool. I am still waiting for my paycheck. When it comes I will go have a PKD spree. Ani.

Thanks Adelaide. Nothing like a good spree to set a gal back on her feet again, eh?
