A true Blackadder fan
This is all a bit of a surprise really. I was simply browsing the Blackadder website during my lunch hour & pottered my way through the quiz on series 4. Without any apparent effort (the answers came as easily as er ... oh you know ...) I scored 100% & the site suggested I visited h2g2 where there would be a forum for people like me who think there has never been a series before or since to compete with it.
After reading a couple of revues by some people who are quite clearly extremely serious about Blackadder, & like me, seem to have no problem in reciting large sections of it, I decided to take the plunge & hopefully engage in the odd bit of 'view-airing' regarding messers Atkinson, Curtis & Elton's fantastic creation.
It's difficult to decide what the initial attraction is but the overwhelming 'British-ness' of it is beyond question. The skill of the actors (can't ever remember seeing a duff character) & the script which although portraying Edmund as a cad of varying degrees, always keeps us firmly on his side. That & his ability to deliver the most succinct put-down at the most appropriate moment also leaves me with a great feeling of admiration & envy of 'if only I could think of repostes like that'.
It's great escapism, classic comedy & needs revisiting at least 2 or 3 times a month, just as a reminder of how good BBC comedy can be.
I'm now looking forward to sharing a laugh with other equally smitten devotees. Tally-ho with a bing & a bong & a buzz-buzz-buzz!
