I've joined h2g2 now because I'm interested in finding information about the former Marguerite Hepton Children's Orthopedic Hospital, which used to be at Thorpe Arch, nr Wetherby, N Yorks, though I imagine I'm going to find all kinds of interesting things as time goes on.
I was a patient at that hospital between 1943 and 1948. I began with the idea of following up personal memories, but I've found the story of another former patient, who signs as jontyjon, in the People's War Stories section of h2g2, and would very much like to hear more. Maybe the personal memories idea might expand into a small oral history project focusing on people who, like me and jontyjon, spent a large chunk of our childhood lying in plaster beds - in the days before antibiotics came into general use and shortened the treatment radically.
