Middle Age
"The Big Five-Oh"
Today's a special day for me:
I'm turning half a century.
You may find this fact distressing,
But to me it's quite a blessing.
My body may no longer be
the way it was at twenty-three;
But there's one thing which I'm quite sure--
It's better now than sixty-four!
So when you look at me today,
Look past the wrinkles and the gray.
Gray hairs that multiply like mice
Regardless of the best advice.
(No matter how I try to hide 'em
They grow as if I'd fertilized 'em.)
Try not to notice my bumps and sags
And underarms that wave like flags.
Just ignore my sagging butt
And the bulge that has become my gut.
My bathing suit is just for night
So you won't see my cellulite!
And if my makeup and my hair
Are quite a mess, do not despair,
And think that I just do not care--
It's just that once again, you see,
My glasses have eluded me!
Oh, I'm still very much alive--
Spiritually stuck at twenty-five. :-)
