You, me and Uncle Joe

Sho - employed again!

So I saw you mentioning around the place (can't remember where) about the Simon Sebag Montefiore book on Stalin (the court of the red Tzar)

I've always been interested in Soviet russia, and then I remembered that I got the book last year when I was doing my annual trawl of the charity shops for books.

I've already read a fair bit about him - but bloomin' 'eck. It's still shocking.

But anyway - thanks for the reminder.

A caution:

Sebag-Montefiore is a right-leaning Conservative. Not to excuse Stalin, but some of his stuff downplays certain (shall we say) positives such as the USSR's war effort - and I'm not convinced by his interpretation of Molotov-Ribbentrop.

Yes - I mentioned him in the context of the Finnish Winter War wherein I made various speculations on simultaneous German and British support of Finland. To my mind various people got rather nasty and assumed I was being an apologist. All I was doing was trying to examine some murky and anbiguous evidence. Hey ho.

Sho - employed again!

I've read some of his columns so I'm quite well acquainted with his work. As for Uncle Joe - well, I've read a fair bit about him and his little foibles. It's just interesting to see what people make of him.
