Thanks for your help, Birbeck and for recommending my work to some of your friends.
I managed to find my way around a few more portfolios to read some others work and you're right, there are some very talented people out there.
It would be easy just to read and chat on here all day, but thankfully I have managed to develop a couple more pieces. Check out Tuesday evening's Flash thread for links if you're interested.
So I'm definitely taking your advice and keeping going.
