Tomato & pepper flowers

All of the little toms have started to show signs of flowers coming, despite their stunted growth. It's like an orphanage for drawfs. I'm not sure what this means as they are currently one third of what one researcher said they should be at this time of year. Maybe there is still a chance of a couple of fruits per plant. Something which would make smile all day. I don't think you can ask too much for the first year.

Also, the peppers which have just sat there for months have very slowely shown signs of flower heads tightly nestled in the core of each plant. The leaves look healthy so I think I might be onto a winner.

The peas have continued to shoot upwards and all the plants now need support. I have a fear about how close they are together. What happens if these plants are two squashed? Is it just a water issue or food?

growing tomatoes

I've just been out in the greenhouse and inspected the toms. I've realised that I won't be getting anywhere this year. My first year has been a learning curve. After hearing that one must take off all side shoots, I have gone to extremes and taken nearly everything off. So now I'm left with lots of stumpy stalks about 7 inches tall.

Such a good thing that all the other stuff is growing well. The beans now have the signs of flowers/place where the beans will grow. The peas look happy in the new caned environment. The lettuces are mad.

If I had more space I would grow a lot more. Next year....

peas

Tonight I transplatnted the peas from the see tray to a big long pot. This is attempt two to grow peas. The first failed due to damp soil early on. The seads went moldy without sproating. The peas are currently about 6cm tall. I've caned the tub already, even though they don't really need it yet. Maybe this will be the saviour after the toms are not doing so well.
