Vera and Christina's shop opens shortly. This weekend end they painted it and I cooked. Simon said it was a great meal! And so did Vera. Beef stew made with fresh everything ...

Trees

Did you know that science has proved that trees de-stress you. I heard on the radio the morning that if you drive to work via two routes that are similar in every way, except that one passes trees, you'll feel less tense all day if you choose the tree one.
Good news for me as I cycle through the park everyday.

End of a Dream

Last Friday a dream fell down. For eighteen months I've been planning to be on Big Diomede in the Bering Straits for the start of the New Year. Big Diomede is Russian. Its just 2 miles from Little Diomede which is American. The International Dateline passes between them. In winter you can walk between the two islands on the ice. If you stand in the middle, half of you will be the very first to welcome in the new Millennium, the other half will be the very last (24 hours later as 1999 says goodbye to Earth from the most Westerly part of the US A). The idea caught the imagination of television indeed I had 56 countries lined up for a news broadcast. It caught the imagination of UNESCO - which, for those none of you who have seen everyone of my journal entries, explains why Vera and I went to Paris a couple of timse in the summer. But it didn't catch the cash. It didn't start another idea off though. So keep reading …
