About me! dawnrobertnewall
My goodness! When one has reached the age of 72 quite a lot of water has flowed beneath the bridge and frankly, to remember specifics in a pretty average life tests the memory cells. I am frequently amazed by the activity of some of my fellow human beings: some of them have taught themselves how to fly; some make the most intricate yacht models; some regularly go to the gym to 'keep fit' etc. And what do I do? I walk my two dogs every day, twice a day come rain, hail or snow. I practice - and have done for the last 50 years from time to time - the piano: Bach; Mozart; Beethoven and Chopin mainly, but occasionally Scott Joplin! It does not come easily to me - reading music. . . and can take up to a year or two to reach any acceptable standard of a particular piece. I have often compared the ability to read music with learning a foreign language which I was pathetically unable to master at school. There is, of course, the added difficulty of translating - in nanno seconds - from the printed composition to the action of playing the chord or note/s. It remains a satisfying occupation, often for a couple of hours at a sitting.
I did serve, for 6 years in the Royal Navy. An occupation I would recommend to any young person leaving school. I gives one a great opportunity to get on with people from all backgrounds and instills a sense of respect which is often lacking in today's youth.
Well. That's a start 'about me' which is a lot less than the many ideas I have which I may come out with at some stage in the future.
