Popping in both as a member of United Friends & someone who's over 30 (actually just a bit younger than your Mom). It's really not all that bad this side of 30, so you really needn't be too scared. I mean to a large extent it/age's just a number anyway. Just take care of your health as much as possible & it'll be ok. Things have a way of working out.

And smiley - hug you're never truly alone here. I know being alone as you put it, used to scare the "s#*!" outta me if I really stopped to look at it that way. I think the trick is not to look at it that way, just get involved, get busy making a life for yourself...things'll fall into place, maybe not right away - just try to be patient.

If you ever wanna talk or anything I'm here & I'm a good listener, ok. Just click on my underlined nickname to visit my space or use the 'Reply' button below. Bye for now! *waves*

Hey, Total Eclipse of the Heart was a great & very valid contribution...a song I'd temporarily forgotten about!smiley - ok Not like it was some game of solitaire I was playing - didn't mean to scare you off.smiley - erm

Didn't scare me off, sheesh! Just had to get off the computer.
Having fun going back and forth on the music game with you!
Actually, I just posted You're the Inspiration-Chicago, and have to get off the computer again, and wanted to say bye before I left. I don't want to be rude, or you might think I got scared again!smiley - winkeye
We used to play a similar game where I used to work, but slightly different. We would have to SING smiley - musicalnote a song, and the other team would take a word from that song, and SING another song with that word in it, not necessarily the title, just the lyrics. We could go on for hours, often getting better the longer we played. Yes, I am a singer. I just don't sing in front of anyone anymore--Crippling stage fright. Don't know why, I'm really good(not just my opinionsmiley - erm).
So, smiley - cheers, catch you on the flip side!

Hi again! I'm back! Or forward, whichever way you look at it, I'm here. Have some questions for you....
I've visited a couple of people's spaces, looking for new and interesting faces, and I notice a lot of them are incredibly ornate, lots of decorations, quotes, links, etc. How do I do all that? I'm afraid I'm still stuck in the 20th century- not a novice net surfer, exactly, but way behind.
Also, I know the guide has all these entries about all these various topics, and it is a great way to get to know people around the world who like Hitchiker's Guide, but besides being a research reference and a way to get to know people who have similar or not so similar tastes in books, is there greater meaning to hootoo? Any 42 hidden in here somewhere that I have not yet discovered?
Not that not meeting all of you is not great, it SO is!smiley - biggrin I'm afraid it's almost impossible to find other HG fans here, especially where I live now. I have a hard time finding fellow Trekkies, let alone Whovians or smiley - erm what do we call ourselves here?
There are people here that don't know who Monty Python is!!!smiley - wah
I'm in a cultural wasteland! It was a delight to find this forum. However, my question remains, Is there a larger purpose? I don't necessarily need one, mind you, but I do like to know what's going on. Even if I don't like it.smiley - laugh
I remeber reading somewhere in hootoo that this was a good place for wannabe writers. Is that true? And whyfor?

Just get talking to people in a few of those, that's essentially the greater purpose as I see it...making friends pretty much the world over!

Oh man, I can't believe its been 6 days since I talked to you! I just saw you on the music game post, and thought to myself, did I ever thank you for your help? I have pictures now in my space- thanks entirely to you!!!smiley - biggrin

I agree with you, it is important to make friends all over the world. I always wanted to travel the world, but since my finances won't allow it, making friends with people all around the world is the next best thing to being there. I can look at photographs to see what they see, and talk to them, and it's almost like being there.

Where are you in Canada, exactly? Its almost 10 pm where I am. Is it later where you are? I need to get out my atlas to see where everybody is that I've been talking to! So much fun!smiley - biggrin

And I'm starting to navigate the whole hootoo thing too! I've joined the Thingite army! Are you a member of that one? What did you come up with for your "title"? Some of them made me laugh out loudsmiley - roflsmiley - roflsmiley - rofl

This site is pure smiley - magic, and I count my lucky stars every day since I found it!

Well smiley - blush I wouldn't say "entirely"...but thanks, it's just nice helpin' out! Actually speaking of pictures, a Canadian now living in Spain has started a photo gallery (I'm not in there yet...I'm workin' on it): http://public.fotki.com/azahar/h2g2_friends/ . So yeah, you get to see some faces, instead of just visualizing some of these people. Oh believe me I hear you, about the finances - aside from here, my travelling is pretty much confined to imported items (cookies, etc) I might find at the $store & a bit of travel TV.

I'm in western Canada, north of western Montana, so I think we're in the same time zone...I'm just a few thousand miles north, that's all. I'm really glad you're enjoying the place...it really grows on you! smiley - winkeye The title I had before...may readopt, it's still valid, was "... bearer of assorted fine dark chocolate or at least that which he hasn't already eaten". No, actually I hadn't joined the Thingite Army.

My wonderfully stupid computer kicked me off the net for almost an hour!!!smiley - wah
I had a lot of trouble getting back on, but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. I was in the middle of reading an entry, but now it is almost midnight, I think I'm going to sign off. I have to drive into Albuquerque in the morning, about 30-45 minutes away. The job search continues!!
Here, have some smiley - choc on me!
Talk to you soon smiley - kiss

Ok, well smiley - goodluck with the job search! *sigh* I share your exasperation over this cantankerous computer! I mention on my page & I've been telling as many people as possible that I'll be going offline for a week or so. You know, to get this thing thoroughly cleaned out & hopefully upgraded. I suppose I'd best stop procrastinating & get the ball in motion, so to speak. I mean the sooner things get moving, the sooner I'll be back online, right. Thanks for the smiley - choc! smiley - smooch

Hope to maybe be around for a couple days yet & right, talk again soon! smiley - hug

Hey Jaz!
I'm not gone! Just seriously wounded. Well, at least my computer is.smiley - wah You can read about it on my journal entry. I'm trying to reconnect with everyone today, while my brother is out. It sucks having to share with him. Neither of us is big on sharing. Too much forced sharing when we were kids.
I'm eating a piece of chocolate smiley - cake, with a big glass of milk, that my mom made last night. Want some? Feel free to indulge, there is plenty, and no calories, no guilt!
Well, today is a good day. I spent two hours working out(the one benefit of not working!), and did some yoga and a little meditation afterwards. I feel better than I have in months! Hopeful, optimistic, determined! I was up way too late last night, thinkingsmiley - headhurts, and basically outlined the entire story for yet another book I have in the works. Now all I have to do is write it!smiley - doh
Maybe once my computer is working again, without fear of meltdown and losing it all, I can actually work on it.
The job hunt continues. Sucks, but what are you going to do? Have to work, and I really want to try and get a job that will either give me time to write, or enough money that I can get my own place again--hopefully BOTH!!!smiley - winkeye No offense to my mom's cooking, I just prefer my own, especially my almond candy crunch cake, my spaghetti, my omelettes, my tea!
Sorry for talking your ear off, just happy to be back! KITsmiley - hug

smiley - yikes S-o-o smiley - sorry it took me this long to find this thread (you know how things work, it just got buried further & further & even further under new/current conversations.) And of course it didn't help that I was away for just over a month. No,smiley - ermnot the exotic holiday in Rio, Barbados, or Sydney-neither Australia or Nova Scotia. I was hospitalized the evening of Aug. 13th, was in hospital-with serious pneumonia-for about 3 & 1/2 weeks, & once I got out my Mom insisted I spend awhile with them. Arghh! Don't get me wromg, nothing like Mom's care & attention, but while they have a computer it's not connected to the 'net! And you can only play Solitaire so long! So it goes without saying that when I finally got back to my place, I almost smiley - hugged everything huggable! smiley - winkeye And then shortly after that I had some computer problems-in fact I still am-but it's useable...in "safe mode".

Anyway smiley - hug(b-i-g)smiley - hug & maybe a smiley - smooch or 2! It's so good to finally be back...it's just taking awhile to actually get to everybody. And of course there was some catching-up to do in real life too! Hope you're doing well & that the job-search has turned up a real gem of a job, that both gets you into your own place & gives you time to write! Again, b-i-gsmiley - hug & hope to hear from you soon-get back to me when you can hun.

Hey Jaz!
Good to hear from you again!
Can't stay on long, or at least, write for long. My replies will be much shorter from now on. Which should be a big relief to everyone!smiley - biggrin
Sorry to hear about your pneumonia. How are you now? All recovered?
Tell me all the news from up North.
I'll stay on line for a while, so chat back soon.
It takes me awhile to respond, especially the longer I've been on line.

We had a snowfall on the other side of the mountains from Albuquerque last weekend. I had to drive thru it. I was an extra in a movie being shot in Moriarty, NM- where it was snowing. It was so strange to see it snowing. I'd almost forgotten what snow was like. It was gone the next day, and now its warm again.smiley - wah

Well, can't BELIEVE they re-elected Bush! But I try to stay out of politics. In my mind, Democracy may be the best human government there is, but it is still just another way of oppressing the minority.
I hurt my back at work a month ago, which put major dents in my work/going back to school plan, and am suffering daily, which is why I can't stay on the computer for too long. After posting this, I will have to lie down for a while before I get up to see if there has been any response! My life sucks right now, but I am not letting go of my dreams and ambitions so easily. I will go back to school, and I will be a writer. I will be a teacher, and I will move to the west coast- I'm thinking Seattle. I won't give up, no matter how much pain I'm in, or how depressed I get over how much pain I'm in and how little I can now do physically.
I'm in a really bad place, but my outlook is so good, that even down in this hole, I can still see the stars!smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrin
