Oh!
It's the way you tell them! I'm sorry your day was spoilt because I know you enjoy your writers circle, but if you don't want me to laugh then don't give me such a funny description of events!!
Fancy a slice of lasagne?

Hello Kif!
You're ahead of me with the lasagne garden, because I became a bit stuck on one fundamental - what have you used as a "wall"? Or have you just built a mound and planted on that?
The book I have got suggests just a mound, or railway sleepers. But my beds have to be long and narrow, and railway sleepers just take up too much room - and besides, I'm not sure of the muscle power I have to lift them into place!
Most of my beds will have to be against a wooden fence, so I need to protect that from the earth or it will just rot.......... what are you using?
Oooh goody, a daily journal again is a possibility Sorry you won't be appearing in Dads Army, although I appreciate the reasons, because I was looking forward to hearing about the rehearsals and final production.
Hope you and the Boss are well, sounds like it......... and Spring is on the way!! Can't be bad
Take care, will speak elsewhere soon,

Hello,U.G.
my piece of garden that I have put the roses in has wall behind it so no problem. However I may have a solution. As I did not want to be arsed trying to find sleepers I built the front border up with local stone behind which I put black polythene. Then I just put in the layers. I put the plastic down behind the stones and left a little , about eight inches spread on the ground so that it would stay. You could do the reverse. Put the plastic against your fence to the height your garden will reach with enough on the ground to hold it. You can get the stuff on a roll from garden centres, it is normally used to keep down weeds before laying gravel in the garden.
I did not actually do the work, I stood around waving my arms and giving orders while the lad who helps in the garden did all the work
When he comes again I will get him to demonstrate how he laid the plastic and I will send you pictures by e mail, cos much as I love you I aint gonna dig up the bit we've done just to show you how.
We are having bad weather today so it is an indoor day for us just chillin'

Thank you, Kif
I wait with bated breath!! Seriously, don't go to too much trouble, I think I see what you mean. The plastic to protect the fence is a good idea, and your use of local stone gives me an idea for a little pile of old housebricks that are lurking at the back of the shed s an' all
Have been actively "grannying" today and am now shattered for the night shift. Took eldest grandson to his second swimming lesson, then collected eldest granddaughter from school and deposited them both back home. Then down the road and in to see youngest grandson for rumbustuous play, and when he fell asleep I assumed my favourite position, comfortably hooked into the corner of a large armchair, with a very young baby asleep on my shoulder, and I can't deny that I had a bit of shut-eye at the same time.
