Me, myself and I
Ok, so I'm gonna have to admit it now ain’t I. I’ve subscribed to a writing site... and that’s as much a public admission as any I can think of. I’ll have to come out of the closet under my own steam before I’m publicly outted. I think I can say it... deep breath... control is regained... I’m an addict.
There it’s out!
I can’t stop writing, thinking up stories, putting snippets of conversation on any scrap bit of paper, looking at people on the streets and making up their characters, life events and future. It’s all the goddam time... I’ll wake from a dream – hell that’s a good idea – gotta write that down.
‘What did you say, what did you say? No, no say it again, only this time slower... and wait until I get a pen won’t you!’ It drives people mad. If only my boss knew how much time was spending in this little ‘Alice through the looking glass’ life.
I’m churning out rubbish at a rate of knots... every now and then there’s a small gem... and you know it when you write it and you’re all exited... and you can’t wait to show it to you’re family... and... it turns out to be another load of bull... better bull, but bull all the same.
And, how long has this addiction lasted? Giving or taking a few years... fifteen. And, how many things have I had published? Nothin’... and why not? Because I’ve not let anything get out from my iron-fist-grasp. It ain’t ready; it’s still got another draft; I’m re-working the prose (AGAIN); hell even – the ink ain’t dry yet.
So, now I’ve admitted that I’m an addict, its time for me to lose my parental grip and let some of the children play outside (started with the kent short story... although some of the threads seem to suggest that that one should remain in the playpen). At least here I can keep a close eye on them... can’t have them playing too far away from home just yet, can we.
Anyway, that’s me... or at least my addiction...
