JustRight... and not the breakfast cereal
Hullo and Welcome to Valhalla!
I'm a Viking chick with a passion for medieval re-enactment. I'm a member of two totally different Re-enactment groups, the Red Ravens based in Palmerston North, New Zealand; and the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA) Shire of Darton, which is in Wellington, about 2 hours travel from home (Palmy).
The main difference between these two groups is that the Ravens use steel weapons (blunt of course) and fight to the touch; whereas the SCA fights with rattan weapons and go full force. They therefore tend to wear a lot more armour!
I don't actually do any fighting, as I am more interested in the non-combatant stuff, like researching and making my own period garb and jewellery, singing and dancing, as well as cooking feasts.
My main interest however is in beads and I have lots of fun and spend lots of money buying them and making up authentic jewellery which I then sell to my fellow re-enactors. There is a surprisingly large number of us here in li'l ol' NZ and I love going to events and socialising with all the fellow nutters who partake of this hobby.
When I'm not doing all of the above I occasionally go to Massey University, where I am part way through my degree in Teaching. Am only studying part-time this year however as last year I developed a Neuro-muscular disorder that causes muscle spasms in by back and shoulders. A great way to use up energy while not actually doing anything! Have been trying all sorts of treatment to get rid of this damned thing, but it just won't go away! So if there's anyone out there who knows of this sort of thing and can offer any suggestions, please do.
I was introduced to H2G2 by my new boyfriend JermsG. You should check out his page as well, as it's much more interesting than mine. Jerms is the loveliest guy you could ever wish to meet and I wish he didn't live in Hamilton, which is 5 hrs drive from Palmy Nth where I live (sigh).
Anyway, that's all I can think of to write now so will be off. Hope you have a great day!
