There are three main things you can do on h2g2 - you can read what others have written, you can talk A451522 to the rest of the community, or you can write your own entries for others to read A462485 : Writing-Beginners A686595 If you want something to read you could try h2g2's own weekly newspaper ThePost A1161695 which is full of cool articles, stories and cartoons. Or if you feel really daring, you could try a RandomEditedEntry A147007 Who knows what you'll end up with!

Andy, I have some comments and one question. The language you use is similar to the JEZ2 I used quiet a few years back with IRS computers, but I have lost too much. I stole a good portion of my site by copying and pating from your language. Adding that to your page is very good idea. Not really knowing what I was doing, I could not determine what was the parameter that defined the globe in the Marquee, so I stole yours. Also, I thought the Alien looked more like a cockroach than an alien so I stole it.
My question is this: Presently my greeting says hello to Kentucky Colonel; will the parameter change it to whomever is online or should I replace it with some sort of permanent id and if so, how do I do that. Thank You so much for your help. Kentucky Colonel--Harry.

the paremeter means whoever clicks on your space there name will come up same as mine it says hello welcome to owlys personal space your page is looking pretty good well done in such a short time

Hello Andy, I have one more question and then I will leave you alone. I just want to soften my space some and then I have to get back to doing some planting and I want to spend some time just enjoying reading the guide and chating.
If, however, I wanted to add a would I have a REPLYOo designation such as your "2525988"? If it is not that simple, I will just wait until I have a little more time---after the tomatoes are out. Thank You Harry

Andy, I spent some time surfing the guide and came to the realization that I was going to have to use GuideML if I ever wanted to make an entry. I then spent two days at the DNA GuideML Clinic. I don't pretend to unerstand a lot of it.
I did get the gudiebook to work by inserting the replyto# that appeared a the top of the page where you sent the first message. So an entry to my guestbook will go there. How do I remove the entries from that page?
I really do not understand where a posting goes when it is made, but will work on that. I will do some more reading and make some attempts and see what happens.
I have one more question and then I will leave you alone until I have done some more studying and attempts.
I have found out that there are 70 columns on the page, and how you can utilize that but is there a tag that will allow you to start writing at a particular column? I know the will do "center", "right" and "left" but can it be to a designated column #.

Andy, don't worry about either of the things I asked. I have spent the day (it is raining and I can't garden) and have found some of what I need. I would rather save your help when I come upon somthing that I can't solve myself. It is amazing what a little reading will do, isn't it. I don't know if this is kosher or not, but I created a Guide entry and then used the reply to ID in the guestbook. So now when and if anyone writes in the guestbook, the entry will go to that guide entry number on my message center page.
I also came upone the think which allowed me to do what I wanted to do as far a placing things on a page.
