Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

My evening is sliding into the quiet mode. Snow, ice and slush cleared from the sidewalks of our home, and three others. A light supper, and now just a bowl of smiley - popcorn and some lazy TV.

Tomorrow, of course, ... another bout of spring cleaning. And the attempted chemical stripping of some very old paint around the framing of a 2.5 metre by 4 metre front window. Oh yay ...

*skips away to formulate a little e-mail to a pair of delightful Ladies*

Dear H.! smiley - smiley Sorry about the delay, how soon do you need my answers?
It's a rather complicated topic, since for people living in a huge megapolis it's difficult to define the borders of communities. Geographical/administrative borders don't work, as people spend most of their time at work far away from home, even children may travel up to an hour to the school the family chooses as the most suitable one.
We used to play in the huge yards of our apartment blocks, but our kids barely know other children in the area. I know my next door neighbours (there are three flats on the landing), but don't know many of those who live on the other 8 floors of my section of the house, let alone the rest of its inhabitants etc, etc...

I hand the assignment in in four weeks time but please dont feel obligated or pressured to do all the questionssmiley - biggrin in a sense what you just said answers some of the assignment as it is about just looking at the difficulties of what defines a community and what affects it location, logistics every day factors etc are all valuable does that help smiley - hugsmiley - ok

Have had a lovely relaxing weekend with friendssmiley - hug and the extra day at home was good for Tom smiley - smooch he looks much better for a longer rest, I get quite concerned for him some times with the amount of travelling he doessmiley - sadface but hopefully not for long once I have finished my degree the plan is for me to work full time and he will be the house husband and farm manager and the parent who gets to stay home and workk with the children smiley - magic it will give him teh opportunity to spend a large junk of time with them before they are ready to flee the nest he has missed a lot being the working parent and being int eh RAAF and I know this grieves his heartsmiley - sadface

How was your weekend was it good?smiley - magicsmiley - run

Hi, smiley - smiley I can see you are on-line.
The sky is blue - smiley - magic - and we are going out for a walk - my daughters and I - after waiting for over three hours for our food to be delivered (the shop gives intervals of three hours and they are always late) but they are the main reason why I find bits of time to play with hootoo and other things cyber. Ah, here they are at last...smiley - run

No, it's all kinds of food we would otherwise have to go to the supermarket for - juice, fruit and vegetables, milk, frosen fish, cat's food and litter-tray stuff, washing powder, even bread etc... , and the cost of delivery is ridiculously low. This time it was over a hundred kilos...smiley - bigeyes and may last us a week...
We went for a walk along the paved path on the edge of the park, didn't venture deep in, as only the little one had proper rubber boots for the puddles and the melting snow. We also took some flowers to my Mum and the kids old Nanny, as the 8 March is celebrated here as Women's day and all women get flowers and gifts. The tradition dates back to Klara Zetkin (a German communist), I'm afraid, but it's a great opportunity for merry-making and men and young children being nice to their mothers, wives and us in general.
- or is it time to get up down under?

Its time to get up now and I have done a reasonable amount of work but it is making my brain work smiley - whistle we have mothers day here in a few months time but we don't bother with it as it is just a commercial invention to get peopel to buy more things they don't need....was reading where the thought at present is that the rise in consumption of goods is a direct reaction to the lack of community and connectedness that people feel with each other...not sure about that can't really see how buying an ipod would make you feel less lonelysmiley - winkeye your walk sounds lovely wish I could have joined you. Do all people get their food deliverd in Russia and is this because the shops are to far away?

Not many people go on-line shopping for food, it's our personal whim, which has only become possible quite recently. We are doing it in order to save some time, to spare our backs (as we don't happen to have a car) and to avoid messing around in a cheap supermarket...smiley - silly I can't completely rely on the kids doing the shopping (they are the ones with loads of spare time on their hands smiley - grr), so the 'Platypus' - that's the name of the on-line shop we are using - comes in handy smiley - ok.
Talking about how far the shops are - - shopping is no problem in this city, as well as all over the country - provided you have the money of course...
On-line shopping facilities for furniture, technology, books etc seem to be thriving - this very computer has been put together by a friend and former student of mine from the parts ordered on-line and promptly delivered...
smiley - goodluck with your day...

P.S. My daughter may be doing a presentation in a month's time of her project on Australian fauna - any ideas about the visual material we could find on the net?

Hello smiley - hug

Have listed a couple of animal sites that might be good however the one below is one of our leading landscape photographers his work is amazing we have visited his gallery in NSW and I dearly wish I could afford an original.... you might like to add one or two of these shots to presentatin by the way he is very vocal about his faith another reason I like and admire him. smiley - flyhi

http://www.kenduncan.com/

This site is about our most famous animal conservation family, don't know if you heard about Steve Irwin he was a really amazing man and its an awful loss to for Australians.smiley - wah

http://www.australiazoo.com.au/

This is not a bad site either as it has articles and photos that increse in complexity as it goes through, is meant to cover a range of ages here in teh school system but I think would also be useful where english is a second language in gaining information and building it slowly.smiley - ok

http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/jmresources/ausanimallinks/index.html

This is a page from our local zoo with one of my particular favs smiley - smooch its native to this state

Yes we know and admire Steve, no words to speak about it, its the kind of thing that just seems to happen occasionally when people dice with death on a daily basis...smiley - rose He had quite a young child, didn't he...

I have been working on it for a couple of hours now trying to polish it up but I am having difficulty with how they reference things it is very convuluted what are you up to...We went away for the weekend to the sea side for a bit of a welcome break I managed to get sunstroke which was very embarrasing being the mum who is suppose ot know bettersmiley - erm Did you see the entry in my journal from B4? I am not sure how to take it whether it is meant to be funny and to laugh or whether they were having a go at me...either way it is funny to write stuff down and then see that people have commented on it.... always comes as a bit of a shock to me which is really dumb considering I know that this is a public formum and people can read it...and obviously do....how is your daughters assignment going....I am just writing about teh aspects of the internet and how that is changing the face of community in Australia it is very interesting.
