weirdo07 Posted Jan 11, 2007
What makes the dog bark? Animals? Is it a guard dog?
I hope you both get some sleep.
Thanks for the flowers - what do you call them?
Good night. o

This particular bunch are kangaroo paws with trailing vines of jasmine intersperesed with cowslip orchids
I am awake again and off out the door just thought I'd quickly check and see if you had responded
As for the dog I am blowed if I know one expert says separation anxiety , I think its the kangas , my husband is ready to shoot him , and no not really all I know is sleep deprivation is a cruel and unusual punishment especially when I take for such nice walks .
Anyway I am off to the big smoke
what do you think to many icons now
By the way how do you goodye in Russian

weirdo07 Posted Jan 12, 2007
Privet! Dobroye utro! (it's early morning here)
I'm not sure what G'day stands for. Is it more like a 'Good morning'(Dobroye utro) and 'Good afternoon'(Dobryi den') or rather like 'Hello?(Privet)?
Do you mean there are actual kangaroos hopping around and teasing the poor dog? I thought they were mythology!
No kangas for me. Ceaseless noise of thousands of cars all through the night.
Fortunately, the dog doesn't mind them.
Have a G'day!
And I'll try for a change...

Excuse the spelling I know I'll get it wrong and I may even have the wrong phrase it has been so long But....here goes..... Dova Jena (Good Evening) Karka ste (How are you) and maybe this means absolutely nothing but gibberish to you
I had not realised how similar to Serbian Russian is as Dobroye utro and Dobryi Den are exactly the same in Serbian….. I wonder how many other words are the same
Yes the kanga are for real I wish they were mythology when he starts barking…. we also get emus, brush wallaby's, goanna, echidna and a host of other creatures for the dog to go bananas' over.
G'Day is a common form of greeting here in Australia short for
Good day, it means in our slang….. hows it going....nice to see you.... how are you...what’s new.... not bad for four letters and one apostrophe
We have a host of colourful phrases here….. some of my favourites are:
Flat out like a lizard drinking .....translation.... I am really busy
Mad as a cut snake.....I am angry ....or
if applying it to someone else that they are insane
Stone the crows......expression of surprise
Fair dinkum .....genuine, reliable,
Rigi didge.... honest true or you could say true blue meaning the real thing
Well that has probably bamboozled you enough tonight
and while the dog is quiet I am off to grab some sleep.

G'day, dear friend! (Pity I don't know your name ).
My daughter is doing an English project on Australia (inspired by our correspondence, I suspect ). She's found a lot of information in online encyclopaedias, but it would be great to hear some advice from actual citizens. Had we a couple of weeks to explore the country, what are the places one should see?
That is, what are your favourite spots?
Looking forward to your family's personal 'Guide to Australia'. I understand it's copyright, but we'll ask your permission to include bits of it - or all of it - in Masha's project.

Hello Weirdo07
I had not realised that you were nervous about this site but I can understand your feelings it must be uncomfortable when English is your second language.
Even with English being my first language it has been a real experience getting around and figuring out things,
Having said that I am blowed if I can follow the last lot of instructins I got from Travellor in time this could be a real learning curve for me as I really need to see things done before I can replicate them not sure how to get around this reading things and trying to learn from print first
To date I have done a lot of lurking which feels disshonest for me, like I am a peeping Tom but it seemed wisest while I get a handle on things not being ofay with cyber space before now but I think I am getting the hang of it and I have met some really nice people like Rev Nic and Venus and of course you
Anyway I look forward to hearing what you came up with
G'day
weirdo07 Posted Jan 17, 2007
Dear Hayayfi, I've been lurking too, and where? at your 'garden' thread! With your permission I'll give it more time - you know I love your world: the space, the colours, the sounds, the smells, the freedom of it, plants and animals...
You make everything so vivid and palpable
I am exaggerating, of course, when I say I'm scared - wary is a better word. (And I don't think it's for language reasons - it's partly my being a novice on the net and partly coming from a completely different culture). I feel at ease with some hootooers, too, even if they aren't aware I'm around.

Goodmorning
Nice that we are both on line at the same time....You take your time I am more than happy to stick with cyber names friend .
I would like to hear more about what is outside you front door I know you said you live in the city but does this mean there is no wildlife I mean birds parks etc I can't imagine not hearing birds in the morning. My favorites are the maggies or magpies they have this warble that they make which I think is the sweetest sound in all the world.
At present we are having huge flocks of birds dieing across the state and no one knows why. I know our honey eaters are way down on last year and I saw only a few splendid fairy wrens this season as well. I am hoping that its because we trimmed so many of the trees back, birds don't like it when you change their landscape and it takes up to a year for them to get use to changes in their environment the nesting boxes we put up over two years ago are only just starting to be used.
We have a comet that can be seen at night at present just after the sun has set but only from the coast so we are going to try and take a gander on Saturday when we go to Perth to celebrate my sons birthday
Was the info I sent the sort you were after?

Hello fellow
In the process of ing I came across a posting you had written that talked about your countries coming back to a place of being able to pursue religious freedom by the individual I would really like to know more about this if you are comfortable talking about it sometime in the mean time
I am off to bed big day tomorrow off to the big smoke
G'day
weirdo07 Posted Jan 20, 2007
What do you need the big smoke for when you have all this fine clean air around?
I stumbled across this just now
This deserves to be quoted among the top ten quotes of the day.
So have I, so have I.

hayayfi Posted Jan 21, 2007
We went to town to celebrate my sons birthday it was the first time that he has had a party as he has never wanted one before and while we were there we did some comet gazing it was amazing.
I am suppose to be busy getting tax file records together for our new accountant hence the reason I am avoiding and playing here instead.
However the master approaches and so back to work I go

I've got another crazy idea, Hayley dear. How about introducing our husbands to each other, won't it make them a bit happier about the wild behaviour of wives? We could use this thread and I'll translate for my husband What do you say? Mine feels a bit lonely when I'm online.

G'day, Tom! I'm very pleased to meet you. My name is Alexander.
My occupation is akin to yours, it also involves wooden things - only I don't carve or make them, or build from them. What I do is painting icons. Do you know what they are? It's an ancient christian traditional art, painting images of saints and traditional scenes, like Nativity etc, on wooden boards. If you ever saw a photo of an Orthodox church you could see there are usually lots of icons there. There is usually an iconostasis (a tall 'wall' of several rows of icons) separating the altar from the main space of the church. The iconostasis is often decorated with wood carvings, so I often work together with artists who specialise in carving from wood. There are many churches that need icons, but they don't always have money, so my job sometimes turns out to be a hobby.
I have very little free time. When I have some, I spend it studying my family history. Our name can be found in handwritten books that date back about 500 years, and it's a challenge to read them. But it's exciting and sometimes really funny.
We have a summer house an hour's ride from the city where we spend the summer.
Vsego Vam dobrogo (all the best to you). A.

Gday alexander,
I'm familiar with the icons because I grew up in the catholic church but I really didn't consider where they came from.I am trained as a carpenter and although I enjoy this trade I've found that my employers (some 30 or so)use me for the jack of all trades cap I wear. Our building industry is flourishing and consequently some trades are lacking in there "finish" so they get someone like me to "fix-up all the mstakes and damage that occurs before the new home owner takes possession. We chose to move into a country region and the kids enjoy the personal freedom of that "space" offers but I travel 3hrs a day to work and back which for a lot af Ausies is becoming the nornal as city prices are becoming inhibitive.I have also looked into my families geneology but I have to confess I wasn't very impressed with what I found.
Speaking of free time, I get the impression that time seems to be getting in shoerter supply, we seem to be busier today than our ancestors were yet we have all this labour and time saving technology is this your experience also or am I dong something wrong.
Hope this finds you well regards tom
