With friend Wayne, the locale was obvious to me even before the peek at his PS Title bit. WayneFrWpg, Wayne From Winnipeg (Wpg the common contraction for us techies and airport/aircraft involved Canucks)
In the early '80's there were spoof radio spots about "Steve's Bank" on the corner of Portage and Main. The main/master/hub junction of the city, reputed to be the windiest street corner in North America, even compared to Detroit, Michigan, US. Their "loans arranger", Bruno, would happily 'take' your payments at any hour, ...

It was great fun for the several months it lasted. As described to Wayne, I was there and you know that is where Cheryl fed me so well (professionally, of course) that I had to marry her.

Oooh Thank you for that informative insight! You have made places seem more real and the fact that you have fond memories too makes a big difference!

Wayne is from Winnepeg but not in the forces there.. is that right?

To think I thought him an American.. that was the 2nd mistake I have made about him! He was rude to me one night and I told him to have better manners towards his elders...he thought he had one over on me when he told me he was 2 weeks from his 46th Birthday. I passed him to the winning post with BEAT YA! It made Crazyhorse laugh for the first time! And we have all been friends since!!

I have found Wayne to be rude periodically, and somewhat infantile (rip beating heart from you, etc) And for a 46+, seemed rather silly. His PS says he is retired so, at that age and in Winnipeg, I would put (small) betting odds that he was military. Winnipeg has a massive base that is north-side-half Air Force, south-side-half Army. Believe me, there are distinctions. So I just thought I would toss a bit in the mix that he would recognize. Boy, did he jump at it. But that has settled now, ...

Have you, perhaps, used your e-mail program to 'check' for new stuff? Some times the automatic checking bit is slow. I kinda thought you would like to meet your "name-sake". smiley - winkeye

I've just had a look and the inbox is empty.. maybe it can take sometime getting through.. all this is new to me! I will ask hubby to check in the morning if I catch him before he goes to work!

So you really have named a kitten after me?? I thought you were just joking on the thread! smiley - blush Thank you very much! I certainly look forward to meeting her!smiley - hug

I thought I would just leave you and Wayne chatting for a while, it's a good way of making friends online. But I would understand if you think it is too much like a busman's holiday!

smiley - cheers

Not at all, having almost-guaranteed-never met the man, no old-work involved. Indeed, across the Atlantic, different internet companies, photos being larger, they may not travel fast or well. If not there by tomorrow, I'll try again, one at a time. (There are three)

Please do not get too proud of your name, we brought the foundling into our home in October (my Mum-in-law's birthday) and shortly thereafter named HIM shadow. I only found H2G2 a few weeks ago.

But I'm sure you are a cuddly kitten who, with the right person rubbing your tummy, can be made to purrrrrrr just right. Lucky Mr 'lil old SHADOW'.

smiley - ta for now, things are progressing for out evening.

We married the beauty off in September, on our own 16th anniversary. Among the results of our digital camera, her "other Mom" (birth), and several friends, we have over 250 pix on our computer. Thank G** for recordable DVD and a pretty good scanner. (I'm a techie, this is what I do!)

So you got some samples. Anyway, I'm gone again. If I don't catch you again before your day is done, a little smiley - hug and smiley - kiss for sweet dreams.

Chat tomorrow, probably, friend.

Unfortunately, also a smiley - yuk work day. Ah well, life does go on.
Got your e-mail and have a query. Again, you must understand that your expressions and daily activities are somewhat "foreign" (in a very good way, smiley - hug) to me. 'Elevenses' is perhaps your late morning smiley - tea-and-what-ever break smiley - huh

Meanwhile, must see if anyone broke that simul-post tie, ... again !

smiley - cheers

Me foreign? Never thought of myself like before smiley - laugh but, yes, even though I have no passport... to you I am foreign!

Elevenses...just a break before midday for a cuppa smiley - tea or smiley - coffee with perhaps a biscuit or a piece of toast. If we had a meal you would call it brunch?

smiley - hug

If it was late morning and no expectation of anything edible (watch your mind smiley - winkeye) at noon-ish, then yes, we would call it brunch.
And you are more correct than I. As H2G2 is a British product (BBCi) and probably populated nearly 2/3 or better by "Brits", I am the foreigner. Been there, done that before for a summer training session in Florida. Mind you, even the first 6-months in Newfoundland, I felt like a foreigner, their accent and culture were so different from rural Ontario.

What exotic foreign places have you flounced about in?

Darling I have never had a passport... never been abroad. Years ago I never had the money and now I have no inclination!

Although I did once fly from Liverpool Airport to Luton Airport, Bedfordshire. That was about 3 years ago. We could have taken a coach into London, but coward that I am, I made us (Hubby, VV & Me) stay in the airport for 4 hours... frightened in case we missed our flight back!
And chain smoked the entire time!

I thoroughly enjoyed the flights.. VV didn't, she sat next to Daddy all the way back! I had the window seat there and back!

I spent the next 3 days in bed recovering from the experience of being out so long!

"... never been abroad" If that last word became two, many politically correct feminists in Canada would start a holy-war smiley - biggrin

I didn't realize a passport would be necessary for occassional jaunts. Today, for sure, because of world security threats, but not before. I'm just used to a country 8,800 km wide and, with 51 states just south of us, days, even weeks of travel can be accomplished without really touching "foreign" soil. Again, very different perspectives.

The first airplane I was on was at age 17, going to military recruit training. I was fascinated with the view and, probably several hundred take-offs and landings later, I still am. My mohter-in-law, on the other hand, has difficulty just looking at aircraft over-head. So I can sort of understand VV's discomfort. (hug the poor little dear, huh?)

Must go build another smiley - coffee. Will see you around the hootoo ...
(little cheek smiley - kiss)

Britain has always had some form of passport control.. for a short time we had a twelve month passport, you could order from the Post Office and was valid for a year but you could only use it for a maximum of 7 days at a time! Then they brought out a 24 hour pass for jaunts to France!

Now you have to have a full passport to go anywhere! And for the US you need at least 6 months on your passport before visiting!!

Personally, I would have to ponder for 6 months the merits of visiting the US anyway smiley - winkeye Oops, did my marginal prejudice slip again smiley - huh
