War time service
My name is Geoffrey Prater,I was born in Stratford East London in 1924. Joined the Army in late 1942. Went to N.Africa December 43 then Italy Jan.44 till wars end. Served in the Royal Tank Regt (51st) as tank crew wireless operator until VE day 1945. Then joined 8th.RTR until de-mob in Palestine 1947. Lost a brother in Oct.1940 in Stratford by a bombing raid aged 17. House was totally destroyed in 1944 by a "Doodlebug" Father served in the RAF on balloon barrage section, on a barge in the Thames Estuary. Our family had a rather hectic war, and if anybody deserved a medal it should be my mother.God bless her.
