Hi, I'm a pretty rubbish low level researcher...very little useful contributions to my name but I'd like to rectify that. I really want to set up a little page for a group i want to start...I've got frends who'll help me at my end but none of us know the first thing bout guide ml , how to make a h2g2 club/organisation or exactly what needs to be done! So i thought as your an Ace...if your not to busy you might be able to give me a few pointers on what to do, where to go, and ways for me to improve my guide Ml...possibly recommend some people on-line that could help me starting out?
If you could se your way to giving me a helping hand I'd be very grateful,
thanks for your time

Hi Rob or is it Pof.Doom... ~grin~
First off lets just correct your opinion of yourself... ~big grin~ You are a wonderful person who me would really like to be friends with... so that makes you pretty dran special... ~grin~ Good... now thats out of the way... on to your request...
What sort of club/organization are you thinking of starting? As you probably know there are quite a few already around h2g2... so will it be different... or a variation on a theme already running?
Spend a little time working out exactly what you want to do... it needs a good name... and be something people will want to join... with clubs on h2g2... you get loads of people in the initial sign up stage who won't bother to return... so you need an idea that they will want to hang around to discuss... ~grin~
Putting your idea down onto a page in h2g2 is the easy part... you then need the time to keep you club/organization going...
So what are you thoughts?

Hi, thanks for your reply...I've got a few ideas, the best is one which all of my "freinds" could help me with as they're all interested. We're students and have many alcohol fuelled adventures to pass the time when we should be studying or doing coursework or just on college holidays, most of this involves being stupid in public, looking "different" and behaving "oddly". We are basically outcasts because of our ideas, lack of respect for fashion or the authority that people seem to have because of their popularity. I thought we could set up an "Outcast/Misfit Organisation" "OMO"for short which would allow other people with similarly unfashionable ideas who are eager to share in our bizarre pass-times learn of our stupidity, unpopularity and general attempts to look as weirdd and insane as possible. Its a pity we cant use photos on h2g2 as I've got some great shots of 6 of us skateboarding in labcoats in a crowded, "towny" (anti-different) area...and then us diving over a fence to escape when they realised. Anyway thats what we do and I think that there must be other Loones out there on h2g2 who would like to know and maybe follow in the terachings of the social misfit.
Tell me what you think, I'd be interested to hear.
Thanks a lot Greebs...(i'm a big Terry Pratchet fan by the way)

~big grin~... Sounds good to me... are your friends on h2g2 as well... because it might be a good idea to set up your group as an identity... then have a password you can all use to access the page and make changes... just a thought...
Me for one would love to hear stories of your misadventures... is that what you are thinking of doing... writing about yourselves on h2g2... and if there are others out there with similar stories... have them write about them too??? Might prove interesting reading!!!

We reckon it might appeal to others in our strange position, No they aren't members of H2G21 so a group log-in system would be good of way of getting them in...fewer individual responsibilities. If you could give me some info on how to do that It'd be great. I'm an info-spunge at the mo' he he!

All you have to do is register with h2g2 again... pick a name and a password that you all agree on... so you all have access to your new h2g2 persona...
Name your new homepage as your club... Outcasts/Misfit Organization... and then you will have to put something about your club on the page...
Don't Panic... we can work through it... ~grin~
You will still have your own page as Dr.Doom... but you will also have a club page on h2g2 that you and all your friends can access...

What are you outcasts from?
Labcoats are hard to do stuff in, congrats on being able to use them for something interesting.

"Outcasts from what?" you say just about everything (we hope) Mainly fashion and trends. We're all alternative music people and have been for between 5 and 3 years (different members of the group are a bit younger than us enlightened ones) and we where quite happy being different and liking really unpopular music and clothing. Then about 18 months ago just after Kerrang tv started up it became quite fashionable to skateboard, look scruffy and generally to not care about your appearence. All of a sudden Marilyn Manson, Slayer, Pentara and other previously hard core heavy metal music went from being unknown and socially unacceptable to quite popular.
Then they baggy trousers and Slipknot "huddies" started and the term gegger was introduced for everyone who looked out of place.
We arent Geggers never have been...we where here first, hate Slipknot and dont claim to wrship satan!
Anyway thats the struggle we face everyday, to be more weird thatn even the fashionable weirdos will accept.
My finest hour was going to a concert filled with those people wearing a labcoat Jarvis cocker style shades and my hair slicked bak like somethinmg out of rammstein. They where horrified at my individuality and it was great!
Thats us anyway and if your interested in hearing more we'll be setting up our page where you can "read all about it".
I'll messgae you when its up and running.
thanks for listening!

You sure they weren't horrified because you looked terrible?
Be careful you don't lose your real individuality by trying too hard for this excess weirdness. If dressing like that is something you'd do because you wanted to, then fine, but if you're doing it just to say 'look at me, I am different' then what's the point?
