I thought of you last night! We took my parents out to dinner for my Dad's birthday, and I had a decadent dessert! Warm brownie with on top, whipped cream with hot fudge drizzled on it ... and a cherry!

Are you still ill? It's been so long! I hope you're better for Christmas! I'll be going away until the 29th, so I won't have a chance to wish you a Merry Christmas before then!
Have a wonderful holiday!

Hi Shea
Yes, I am still ill - just restless tonight so thought I might do a bit of hootooing, but I am really not up for it that much.
I was really pleased to get your message though, cheered me up no end!
The doctors have (temporarily) given up on me, I think. Can't seem to pinpoint what is going on. I say temporarily because I am not going to let them give up, but at the moment all my energies (such as they are) are concentrating on Christmas and presents for the little ones.
I don't make New Years resolutions as a rule, but I have already made one for next year - sort this out and get better!!
I hope you and TJ have a lovely holiday and all your wishes come true (especially the ones about chocolate ice cream!!)
I've enjoyed our chats this year - hope they will return next year and my news (and demeanour) will be more cheerful.
Take care UG

Don't give up nagging those doctors! I have a friend in the same boat, and they're *finally* paying some attention to her! They hate to not have an immediate pat answer, so they blow you off in the hopes of you somehow disappearing. Keep fighting!
We'll talk next year, definitely! Take it easy for the holidays!

Hello Shea!
Took me ages to find this thread down my list of postings - at least 5 pages down, I didn't realise it had been that long. How are you? Did you have a good Christmas? You were going away I seem to remember. How was the weather? Kind to you I hope.
As you will have guessed from my journal, I am back at work, and have given up on the medical profession to solve any of this quickly. I am not usually one to sit back and let it all happen around me, so thought I would try and get back into life by myself. It's tough going though! Days are precious - us Grannies have fewer left than most, got to make the best of them, no use being sorry when it's all over!
All the grandchildren were very good at Christmas, not one tantrum, although quite a lot of "discussion" about who's turn it was with the new this or that. There were my little three for Christmas day, and then we all moved camp on Boxing Day to my sister's house to join her and her husband, her daughter, Sam, (my niece) and family, and my Mum. Sam has a 4 year old boy who fitted in very well with the other three and again they had a great time.
New Year was spent with my friend and her (extended) family, making about 11 of us altogether playing silly games until midnight and thoroughly enjoying it. I'm afraid I fell asleep in the middle of one of the games and had to be prodded awake at midnight to say "Happy New Year" to everyone!
It was lovely to hear from you again Shea, it seems so long (my fault I know). Let me know about your Christmas if you have a minute, meanwhile here's some more and a to be going on with.
Take care UG

Thanks for your Christmas wishes, Tef!
Hi there to you, UG! <icecream>
I've been away from h2g2 for a few weeks myself, and I've just caught up on most of my backlog.
I'm just fine. I got ill with sinusitus for the new year, but I'm fine now.
My Christmas was very nice! We drove to Ohio to spend the holidays with TJ's family. He's one of 10 children, so it's always a very crowded visit! There were 39 people crammed into his sister's house for Christmas. It was very crowded, very loud, and very unlike the Christmases I usually have! It was fun! We also were one of the few places in the U.S. to have a white Christmas!
The weather was nice for our whole trip. We started in Columbus for a whirlwind tour visiting friends, and then drove up to the Cleveland area. We got to see a lot of people, and even got to go out to dinner one night! We also went to the Cleveland Zoo where they had a tremendous light display that was throughout the zoo. Most of the animals were asleep by the time we got there, but it was lovely ... if rather cold! We also had a side trip to visit with two of TJ's sisters a few hours away. I got to see lots of farms on that trip.
You keep going, UG! Don't sit back ... at least until the end of the day!
TJ and I both worked New Year's eve, but I went in early and was released at 10pm. So for the first time since we've known each other, I've gotten to kiss him at midnight! He had to get back to work right away, but it's a start. We're thinking of taking off next New Year's eve.
Oh, you'll like one of the Christmas gifts my mother-in-law gave to us! It's a box set of ice cream scoop, 4 sundae dishes and 6 different ice cream toppings ... things like Milky Way, double ! I love that woman!
Okay, back to work! I'll talk to you later!

Hi Shea ice cream>,
I am sorry you were over New Year, sinusitus is no fun, is it? Glad you are feeling better now.
I have just remembered where my pen-friend came from in Ohio, a place called Circleville, does that ring any bells?
Could you introduce me to your mother-in-law - she sounds fantastic!! What a present!
I spent most of Christmas with various members of the family, who all spoilt me rotten, but I am afraid I spent a lot of time propped up in the corner of some settee or other, fast asleep. I woke up on two occasions to find I also had a grandchild draped over me! Bam-bam fell asleep in the middle of the afternoon, and they cuddled him up to me so they could keep an eye on both of us, and Dino climbed on to my lap and put himself to sleep on me the next day!
New Year was spent with a friend and her sister and family, mostly playing silly games ("Call my Bluff", "Give us a Clue" etc. etc.) but they still had to wake me up at midnight to wish me a Happy New Year. I just fell in the middle of one of the games, and slept through the laughter, miming and general hullaballoo that was going on!
Anyway, I am back to w**k now, but sleeping it off nearly all day when I get home. No life really, but at least it is an improvement and maybe it will continue to improve. Be nice if I knew what was really wrong with me!
Anyway, must get on now. Hope you are still well and the New Year is turning out to be good for you.
Take careUG

Hi there! <ice cream>, , and a
I've never heard of Circleville, OH ... but that isn't saying much. I don't know Ohio very well.
I'm sorry you were still so ill over Christmas, but glad you got to visit with family!
How are you doing being back at w**k? Are you feeling any better? I keep praying for you!
Right now, I'm still at w**k. We're having yet another blizzard. I tried to drive home earlier, but I couldn't make it. It's snowing very hard, and it kept freezing on my windshield, and I couldn't see. I was also sliding around a lot. So I'm waiting for my husband to finish w**king at around 2am, and he's got a truck, so he's going to pick me up then. In the meantime, I get to post here and try to catch up on the backlog a bit!

Hi Shea
<icecream>
It seems so long since we have spoken properly, my fault, I know but I was so glad to hear from you.
We have had no here (southern England) until today. I was at my daughter's with all 3 grandchildren and there was a blinding flash of lightening and an enormous of thunder! Granddaughter peeked out of the window and began to tell us it was . "No," says my daughter, "that was thunder and lightening". "But it IS , Mummy, come and look." And it was!
Several thunder later and the storm abated, but the increased, stopped after about an hour, and promptly froze solid. When I left for home I had to put a hot around the rubber seal on my car door so that I could open it! The drive home was only treacherous on the side roads, the gritters had been out on the main roads and traffic was moving normally.
The border collie is a bit perplexed, the patio has frozen and she always tears out into the garden as though she has never seen it before...............talk about Bambi on ice! Legs, ears and tail everywhere! She came in with a very ish look on her face (pretty apt for a border collie!)
Just to cap everything, healthwise, they now discover that my blood pressure is sky high! I was immediately put on medication, but was unwilling to be signed off work again. They said it would be all right as long as I didn't lift anything - fat chance in this job!
Anyway, I hope you got home safely after TJ had picked you up.
Hope to hear from you soon
Take care UG

Hi there, UG! <icecream>
It's partially my fault as well that we haven't spoken. I'm really only able to sneak on here during my dinner breaks now.
I heard about that snow thunder! Quite a few people have mentioned it here. We were supposed to get thunder with our last storm, but I didn't hear any.
I'm picturing your poor dog! Sounds like something for the Funniest Home Videos show!
I'm sorry to hear that you've had so many health problems. I really, really hope that things get better for you soon!
I got home just fine the other night, and I am *so* glad that I had him pick me up. The snow slowed down by the time he started here, but it would have been too deep for my little car. He drove me back here yesterday, and we got to dig out my car together!
There isn't much else going on with me. I'm more than happy about that, actually.

Take care!

Hi Shea
>
You think it was funny picturing my dog -- well picture this. Two of us went to a friend's house this evening and had a bit of difficulty walking up her garden path because the snow had compacted to ice and was very slippery.
When I left, I managed to negotiate the garden path OK, but I could not get up the camber of the road, to cross over to the car, without slipping backwards. I've never "moon-walked" before, but I did an admirable job tonight! The friend that was with me nearly wet herself laughing!! No help, just peels of laughter - I thought I was never going to get home!
Having said that, most of the has gone now, just large patches of compacted ice where the sun did not reach today. They say it will be mild tomorrow, and it will all go.
Had to go and have blood tests today, after a 10 hour fast! Fortunately the Blood Unit is right next to the cafeteria in our local hospital, so as soon as I had been stabbed, I was in there like a shot for a large and a piece of !
Results back in about 10 days - these tests are for heart disease and all related heart problems, one lot of tests that I sincerely hope come back negative!
Anyway, must get back to work, despatch just arriving.

Hi there, UG!
Nobody's heard from me in a while, so you're not alone. I've been very busy at work, and I was away for a bit, so I haven't really been around.
Everything's okay here, though. How have you been? Are you feeling better? You're still in my prayers!

Great to hear from you Shea! I'm glad there is nothing sinister in your temporary disappearance!
All OK here, although knees are getting worse, preventing me sleeping properly, therefore grouchy granny occasionally! But I am still at work, so that is 3 complete months under my belt.
Will be glad of the break at Easter though. Are you doing anything special? I think I shall be spending it in the greenhouse, pricking out a million little seedlings that have all decided to appear at once!
Take care, ice cream,
<big, UG
