a favourite thought

Well, allow me to introduce myself to you as an advocate of Ornamental Knowledge. You like the mind to be a neat machine, equipped to work efficiently, if narrowly, and with no extra bits or useless parts. I like the mind to be a dustbin of scraps of brilliant fabric, odd gems, worthless but fascinating curiosities, tinsel, quaint bits of carving, and a reasonable amount of healthy dirt. Shake the machine and it goes out of order; shake the dustbin and it adjusts itself beautifully to its new position.
Robertson Davies, Tempest-Tost (1951)

late night studying/procrastination

Well, if I'm going to start out on this web adventure, I might as well do it right. So here is my first ever journal entry.
It is late smiley - sleepy, and I've been studying the human brain all day smiley - cdouble(well, actually since the end of August, but admittedly a lot more with the impending exam looming in the very near future...). Do you know how incredibly amazing the human brain is? I go to the lab, and I hold one in my hands. A real brain! It is just incredible. All the crazy thoughts I've ever had, all the things I've learned (and all the things I've forgotten.....), all the jokes that have made me laugh til I've cried smiley - rofl, all the long philosophical discussions at three in the morning have gone through this thing inside my skull. It is hard to fathom just how it all works. And despite all the study, I'm not sure I'll ever know. Such an amazing sense of wonder. I hope that I can remember that feeling when I'm on call in some busy department, with next to no sleep and someone yelling at me.
So I'd have to say that it has been a good day in the realm of medical education. And tomorrow (well, I suppose it is really today....) I get to head out to the hospital and see some real patients. smiley - doctor One of the best parts of the whole experience. By far more highly rated in my mind than classroom learning can ever be.
So, I bid goodnight (or good morning) to you, whoever you are reading this, where ever you may be. May your day be filled with something wonderful, or at the very least, something to make you smile. And I hope you'll come back and join me on this journey again sometime. Til then.... smiley - crescentmoon
