Fanfic, woodworking, sewing and -ing... was there something else?
I like to do craft stuff, but I have to admit that since I got my little bandsaw (and the jig-saw, drill, sander, dremmel...) I have really found something that I love to do and that I seem to be quite good at.
Sewing has taken a back seat recently, but I hope that this summer I'll make a lot of clothes for the Gruesomes. The clothes in the shops is way too expensive for what it is - I'm such a tightwad I'm looking at stuff and saying "I could do that a lot better"... time to put my money where my mouth is, methinks.
As for fic: I'm sure I have asked you this before, but I'm terrible at looking... where do you archive your fic? Mind if I have a look around?
I don't suppose you have (like me) also recently "discovered" the pleasure to be had from gardening?

The other I mentioned was Sci-fri, er, Sci-fi, (Star-Gate).
I have a table saw, (Mom's idea) we don't use it much, but it sure does come in handy when we DO need it. I really don't do that much wood-working. But, I did put down the quarter round along the floor in my kitchen. (I even cut the miter joins, myself. )
Mom and I refinished all our hardwood floors in the house. My bedroom furniture and computer desk is the precut oak that you put together and finish yourself. You can either paint it or stain it and put varnish on it after you sand it. I chose to just sand it and put clear varnish on each piece. So, computer desk and hutch, armoire, 7 small stackable pieces later, and I have a new bedroom. I was happy with me bed. I put shelves and pictures up all the time. So I'm always getting my drill out to drill holes in the wall!
I sew a tiny bit. I did start learning to sew a few years ago, after my first nervious breakdown. Then after my second, it became next to impossibe for me to sit in front of a sewing machine again. I wish I could. Mom is the seamstress in the family. She made almost all her clothes and mine when was growing up. For the same reason you're talking about. It was much more economical. She taught herself when I was about four.
She just finished a dress for my step-sister's new grand-daughter. It's beautiful. Pink, with a white lace overlay. It has a yoke bodice, and the bodice front mom made little pintucks all the way across it. The skirt is gathered and was very, very full.
Now she is going to get fabric to make the Christening dress. We are thinking Dotted Swiss for the farbic. (And to think, she wasn't going to make a fuss over this baby. )
I used to try my hand at gardening, but I did not inherit my grandmother's green thumb. We had vegetable garden one year. We bought a roto-tiller, and made a patch in the back yard. I worked myself half to death getting it all ready. It did pretty good too. Then somebody stole the roto-tiller. So we couldn't have a garden the next year. We have a few bedding plants in front of the house, but that is about it.
I would love for you to read my stuff! I'm posting it on live journal, my handle over there is gold_mustang or mach1. Here is the link to one of the boards I'm posting on, this is chapter 1.

Remember this is my first fic, but let me know what you think. In the immortal words of Number 5, "Input, I need Input."

How could I forget sci-fi??
The baby's dress sounds fab - and the christening dress soulds as though it will be gorgeous too. It's a lot of fun making things like that. (the nearest thing I get to baby clothes these days is dolls' clothes for the Gruesomes) Unfortunately, another weekend has gone by and I haven't sewn a stitch. ho hum. But I did finish a wooden plant pot thing for #2's tree-in a pot.
I'm also impressed at your woodworking! I can't do anything big, but since it's just a little hobby that I'm hoping to earn a bit of cash with, I'm keeping things small. We'll see if I get time to build up some stock.
Thanks for the link to your fic - I'll try and get to it sometime this week (but I'm supposed to be betaing some stuff, so I'm not going to promise)
But I will let you know what I think whenever I do get to it.

Read when you can, I you're busy.
When, if I ever figure out how to get pics on here, I may put a pic or tow of the baby up. When we get some of her in that dress.
