It comes from Monty Python. A sketch where a farmer and someone from the city are observing the sheep's antics inspired by Harold, a sheep who's realised the sheeps life is all for being killed and eaten. So he convinces all the sheep to act like birds. Dangerous thing is a clever sheep.

No, it was with John Cleese and one of the other ones. You never saw the sheep, just them leaning on the gate and talking about them, with a few baa's in the background, and the sound of plummeting sheep.
